Oleg Taktarov was a filler and also-ran among the second and third tier of UFC / MMA fighters of the 90s, someone to fill a card and give name fighters a resume. I hardly could find any video clip showing some skill, this clip tells it all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr3X-QhLYxY Basically he avoids getting KTFO from this "black athlete" clichee toughman until that one gasses, at one point that toughman even refuses to take his back and choke him out when Taktarov kneeled on the ground stunned for a moment, just kneed him in the butt. I would even go as far as the black man being paid for losing after putting on some show.
Sonny Liston smacking around Joe bugner... bugner was quite ruged so he could often stand up to liston's power, I remember wagging an interview with bugner and he said Liston could knock someone out with a jab.
And that was Floyd getting back in shape after the longest layoff in his entire career (up until that point). I don't know how true this is but Mayweather SR said that Dirrell beat up Dawson in sparring ( before the Adamek fight).
I would have thought that thought that Valero and Urbano Antillon wouldn't be too much of a shock as they were both similar weights and ages. Spadorfa always did well as a sparring partner through the years. It's a shame he couldn't do the same without head gear. The Ortiz-Oscar session has been proven since along with Valero bruising ODLH in the run op for the Pacquiao fight. Haye dropping Arreola happened when Haye fought on an Audley Harrison undercard about 5 or so years ago, just before he fought at the playboy mansion. But hey fellas... It's sparring, training... As boxers, you can't go out in the rain without geting wet. Stuff like this happens from time to time.
I've seen the footage of G-man having a charity bout with Hearns but that was kid's stuff to be honest. Very much your stereotypical touchy feely exhibition stuff... fast combos with no authority in the punches but I have certainly never seen him in with Ray leonard sparring.
Excuse me for being ignorant, but is this really true about kid diamond and PBF? Anyone have any further info?
Had. And also, I thought Valero was the one who put the beatdown on DLH, but he wasn't given credit for it because he wasn't a Top Rank fighter at the time. And he was sent home early.
They were both clearly playing, and anyone who can't see that or thinks that sparring proved anything is profoundly stupid. Fun to watch them display their skills though.
Not true. They sparred for a week. The first day was Tyson´s. Lennox said he thought they were sparring but Tyson tried to kill him. Over the next two days Lennox adjusted. And on the last two days he had the upper hand. Lewis figured him out in this week. And while Tyson improved his style stayed the same.
