The only inside sparring stories I have heard of was about Golota. I guess he was a beast at Windy City Gym (In Chicago where I live) They couldn't find heavyweights to spar with him. At least that is what my buds at work (some trained and had family that fought out of Windy City) told me. I know I also read a story about Duva getting pissed at Tua in training and making him spar with Golota as a punishment. Golota beat the **** out of him and Tua was mad at Duva. Allegedly, Duva would make his fighters spar with Golota when he thought they were dogging. This is probably like 1995 or so. I know Tua once spoke of it and he said Golota wasn't a bad guy, just has bad nerves. Funny thing is that Oliver McCall (also a Chicago guy) also had that way about him - beast in sparring but nerves failed him in front of the crowd.
You were where??? When did Tony Margarito say No Mas to Paul Williams ?? Or anyone else for that matter
If you recall Grant was unbeaten at the time & was even favoured to beat Lennox Sure Grant was down twice against Golota but eventually wore him down. Its funny how Ruiz was ridiculed & called a fake champion till Roy Jones jr beat him then he suddenly became legit LOL. Would you want to see Lennox fight Ruiz??? ROFL
GGG-Kovalev sparring. Kovalev was apparently afraid of GGG's power. GGG-Chavez Jr as well. That one's on film.
Naoya Inoue cut Katsunari Takayama about 2 weeks before Takayama fought Francisco Rodriguez Jr. Not a sparring story but Inoue really beat up Masayuki Kuroda prior to turning professional.
Yeah Margarito pasted Mora OK but then Mora got a draw in a fight with Mosely. Then a juiced to the gills Mosely was lauded for beating on a sick weight drained Margarito. Would have loved to see a rematch of Margarito-Mosely with Margarito at 100% & Mosely clean Would have been Margarito putting the smash on Mosely
Talking of Bugner He was involved in a travesty when he challenged Henry Cooper. Cooper outboxed Bugner easily At the final bell Cooper turned to the ref , I think it was Harry Gibbs ,to raise his hand. An obviously embarrassed Gibb ignored Henry and raised Bugners hand It was a diabolical dec Henry quit boxing immediately said he was finished with it. When he was one of the captains on the quiz show A Question of Sport, Henry chose to answer golf questions
Can anyone confirm what happened in groves ggg spars recently? Rumours ggg hit the deck not sure how true?
