By the way flamengo thanks for that Lopez -Tszyu fight i saw it again a couple weeks ago. Remember how i had thought Lopez won the fight back when i originally saw it well my opinion changed only slightly. I scored it a Draw:yep Lopez had a good lead towards the late rounds but Tszyu late comeback was enough to salvage a draw imo.:good
UHhhhhh YEY Man i guess my memory aint as bad as others Done a lot of Pot smoking and boozing in your days ha flamengo:huh
LOL... No mate, very limited pot smoking.. OK. Boozing never hurt a single brain cell, it hurt multiples of them.. lmao. Been sending off quite a lot of bits and pieces over the last few months and fail to pay a great deal of attention to who I send what. As I dont ask for money or thanks, once it's sent I refuse to remember what I've sent. Glad you enjoyed the viewing mate. Cheers. (Buuuurp) lol
In the early '50s in N.Y., two journeymen middleweights -- fierce fierce neighborhood rivals, Jimmy Flood 'n Jimmy Herring, had daily wars worthy of PPV at Stillman's Gym.
Look man i know he was a good puncher, why dont you watch some of his fights and quite getting your info from boxing records.
Don't mean to rub it in, J, but you REALLY did miss something. Think daily three-round head-on truck collisions. NO BOXING; they just wanted to take each other's head off. If ever guys left their fight in the gym, it was those two.
that's brilliant man. the only other sparring i've heard like that is between the norris brothers. gym wars are seriously underrated and unfortunately, up here, i don't get to see any. as always, thanks for the stories john:good
Golota held his own in there but they didnt spar more than a couple rounds. Tua would rotate a lot of guys in and most would stop fighting when he hit them. He hurt a lot of guys in the gym. Vernon Forrest and Fernando Vargas went some good rounds. Both were really good fighters. I also saw some olympic kid who came into the gym with all his fancy gear on, never found out who he was and Duva put him in with a blue collar guy with sneakers on. They were light heavies I believe. The olympic kid was rattling off these really fast combos, and the other guy just cracked him and laid him out. He was face first on the canvas out cold with his stars and stripes headgear on. The whole gym just stopped. Saw Lennox Lewis beat the **** out of Mo Harris. Watched Michael Moorer spar a lot. He was a really abusive guy, who liked to put a hurting on his sparring partners, same with Mike Tyson. He killed everyone in the gym. Ive been a lot of camps and seen a lot of fighters sparring.
I remember in Les Darcy's book he KO'd a top 5 Heavyweight Contender in Sparring but for the life of me i cant remember the cats name. Darcy was a Middleweight at the time. KO'd him cold. Does anyone remember who it was.
Boppa.. the bloke in question was Fred Fulton.. They sparred two rounds before Fulton quit. Big Fred was the leading contender to Jess Willards H/W crown.
I believe you are correct anarci. Darrol became a security guard at a huge liquor store near where I live. He was really slurring his words and had a series of run-ins with the law - like the incident you referred to. I have no idea of his whereabouts now. He was not a big guy at all, about 5-11 and 215lbs, but very solidly built of course. The fact that he kayoed Shannon Briggs in 1996 and even, to a lesser extent, Tshbalala about a year later really speaks for his toughness and heart. I believe after being kayoed in the 1st round by Tua later in 1997 he became a body to batter for the likes of Tim Witherspoon, Ray Mercer, and one other big name. He had moved from south jersey and was residing in Virginia for awhile. Like I said though, I've no idea what he is doing or where he is now.
