A big topic of conversation is how fighter 'A' ducks fights or waits until a top boxer like fighter 'B' isnt in their prime and fights them then or only fights bums. After hearing about fan controlled football and that concept, I was wondering who would follow a fighter that lets fans choose the opponents they go after. Something like fans picking 3 opponents and the fighter gets a fight with whoever will fight them first. Feel free to toss some ideas around to improve this concept or say if it's just a dud of an idea.
Fan controlled football strikes me as a terrible idea, the first running back that gets hot is going to really suffer. For boxing I think the promoters know what people want to see, if they let us vote and give us the fight that's great, but they could also just give us the fight without voting.
Might work for boxing because most fans are diehards... However, popularity contests always go to the biggest names, not the most competitive or interesting matchups (see NBA all star game). We'd see Crawford-Spence but could just as easily see some bull**** transpiring like Canelo v. Chavez Jr. II or Spence v. Canelo before Spence has a chance to grow into 160. What really needs to happen is for ABC orgs to rank other champions, make unifications mandatory & tournaments routine... If promoters block a unification the fighter gets stripped and a tournament for the vacated belt is held among the consensus top 4 contenders (which would include other beltholders).
The setup from boxing should just change entirely. Tournaments or leagues should be much more common, and preferably a home and away system, making it more fair for everyone involved.
