    God damn, people were tiny in those days. Johnson is almost average sized today, possessed of a very athletic build but certainly no giant. He just dwarfs some of these guys.

    I read yesterday that the average American male is 5'9" which surprised me ,I would have thought he would have been closer to 6'.

    Johnson was just over 6' .
    One can see what a cake walk it was for really big men of the times like Jeffries.

    If you saw Johnson in the flesh he would look enormous, even today.

    Ask anybody who has seen sombody like Jersey Joe Walcott for example.

    I dont think we would regard him as enormous. He wouldnt be spectacular for height. He would most certainly be stocky compared to the average man but he would not be a giant.
