whenever there is a match between an aggressive fighter who can't cut off the ring, and a boxer who knows how to use footwork, many fans will ***** and moan. They seem to think that moving forward and missing punches should count for more than defensive footwork and actually landing shots.

In my opinion it seems like these fans want the boxer to dumb down their approach to make it easier for the aggressive opponent to land a punch. That would be like if Usain Bolt slowed down on purpose to let his opponent have a better chance, or if Shaq played a little kid in one on one and played on his knees so the kid had a better chance.

there is no reason to complain about someone who is simply a better boxer. it isn't floyds fault pac couldnt cut off the ring. Maidana and oscar seemed to be able to do it fine, so I don't see an excuse. This isn't a dumbed down college course for the star football players. The professor isn't going to dumb down the course so you have a shot to pass.

Aggression is meaningless, landing punching is what counts. You can't find your opponent? study tape of roberto duran or joe frazier. Getting hugged? study a tape of mike tyson. this is chess. not chess with your 5 year old. accept the game for what it is.

and stop getting the butt all sore because you're favorite fighter is being outsmarted.

I dont like runners but if the runner is landing more that's on the other guy

    I like mobile fighters

I'd define running as staying totally out of range to the point here you can't land either which is a very ineffective way of fighting

The force of a runners punch can be diminished by the lack of forward momentum. If this is the case, the said runner better land at a much higher volume, especially if he is fighting a hard puncher.

Kovalev's style most of the time doesn't require him to pressure you that way. He picks you off at range most of the time. Sure, there are instances where he could benefit from cutting off the ring, but it isn't exactly a requirement for him. He does what he actually attempts to do very well.

Totally correct. He often will have a boxer against the ropes, back up to the center of the ring, and begin moving forward again.

Not only do you not understand Kovalevs style but you think Ward out landed Kovalev in the fight.

Not a very good thread and it's about a week too late as well.

Except Kova beat up Ward as 80 percent of the Russophobic western medial even begrudgingly agree, including the biased Youtube channels that always pick the Murican fighter. kova is a boxer with heavy hands, he is not just about aggression.

That fight wasn't about being slick. That fight was about winning.

Kovalev and Golovkin can expertly cut off the ring and land at will, have great jabs, and are two of the most skilled offensive fighters the sport has to offer, yet all the so-called lovers of the sweet science who prize skill level, dislike them immensely for some strange reason, why oh why could that be? Hmmm

Im saying the Judges were paid well to take the belts from KRUSHER. And he beat Ward up, outboxed him and dropped him on his ass.
