Strike. First off - Hello mate:hi: What I meant was that if you are a fan of 'boxing' as a stylistic term it was a good result in so much as it triumphed over that ugly brawling style that Hatton exemplifies. I know you, Eddie, Doyley, Doggy, Stuey and probably many others who wanted Hatton to win are real boxing fans, but I'd say that many of you were of that mind mainly due to nationalistic loyalties. Can you honestly say that over the years you've enjoyed watching Hatton fight as much as Pacquiao? I'm talking purely in stylistic terms now, of what you like in a fighter. Forget for a minuite that you and he are both Mancs and both English. That's where I'm coming from. To me boxers aren't like football teams to be supported with blind loyalty. I like em or dislike em because of the way they fight/box regardless of where they're from - except maybe Sibbo when I was a kid.
Would you have taken your keyboard in the ring with you? Or would you have just warrior'd without it? Lol... least you could have used your wank wipes to mop yourself up after the very short match.
Watcha Slippy - i agree wholeheartedly...Other than Honeyghan when i was younger - i've never associated boxers with nationality or where they are from. I liked Hatton when he was fighting Thaxton and Magee - but went off him after the Tszyu fight - when he became boring - at the higher level his exciting body puncher style was nullified. I thought he done well to get this far. Jennings is more my type of fighter - styles wise. Hatton was good value entertainment over the years though - it must be said.
More of a rough guide.........but mate open your eyes.........15 pounds for little guys mighy be to much BUT it makes the sport more competive and less diluted with so many worthless belts. If you want to be pedantic then say 10 pounds...........surely many fighters over the years have shown that 3 pounds or 5 pounds isnt a huge leap. Ruiz had to fight fighters 100 pounds bigger
its the reason they made other weights, cos some boxers easy jump through weights others don't,how many boxers jump up weights and win,not that many out of propotion to how many boxers (world class)there are in thr world, erm if this makes sence:hey
I'm struggling with your logic I really am. Are you saying that if you are a fan of a particular boxer, you should cheer on his oponent if the other guy is a better, more stylish fighter - for the love of boxing?
I know what your saying but less weight divisions is'nt the answer. Less titles per weight would be great but wont happen. I think moving up and down the weights has become easier since the 24hr weigh in was introduced so maybe the introduction of a fightnight limit of say 5lbs above would work. I think we would get more competative fights as fighters compete at more natural weights. Sorry for going off thread.
I agree with BB, less belts per weight is the answer not less weights. For every fighter like Pac who finds skipping up in weight easy theres a lot more fighters who can't do it. There are numurous examples of boxers stuggling in a weight class 4lbs heavier than the one the used to dominate.
End of the day it comes down to an attempt at snobbery The phrase 'True boxing fans' is never far away in these type of discussions People should support who they want to support regardless of reason
