People are touting Roach as the best thing since sliced bread lately

He himself is quibbling about Pacman going up to 147 in future and says people (Floyd I assume) will have to come down to 140 or a catchweight at 143/144

If Roach thinks 3 or 4 lbs matters I'm happy to agree

3 or 4lbs from ones natural weight is not ****. It is frankly pathetic the excuses I hear about weight.

Pacquiao is surely reaching his ceiling now. He came from 108lbs. I can see why they would want to get him every advantage possible by fighting as close to 140, but I could still see him beating welterweights. Roach thought Pacquiao shouldn't fight Margarito after he beat Hoya, how is that starting to look now?

Skills pay the bills fellas :yep

At the lower weights 4 lbs can be a very big deal, there are plenty of good super bantams who couldn't cut it a feather, plenty of feather would found super-feather too much

Those new weights were introduced because a lot of fighters were having trouble making the 8lb jump, not just for the hell of it.

As they should. It ain't supposed to be a walk in the park to move up in weight, unless you have the skill and use your speed.

Nowadays people cherrypick easy beltholders and simply fail to visit the sauna to weight in a few lbs higher. It's not exactly hard work and I still hear terrible excuses.

    How is it snobbery?

    It's preference.

Some people base their preference on the fighter's style.
Some people base their preference on where the fighter's from.
Some people base their preference on the team the fighter claims to support.
Some people base their preference on the gym he hails from.
Some people base their preference on the fighter's colour.

But also you don't want to have too many contests where weight/ size was the deciding factor and before the newer weights came in that was happening. Its a little idealistic to suggest thay they should just use their skill and speed or be doomed to fail, not all fighters have the option to float round like Willie Pep, most have to live with their skills anchored in the real world and making that 8lb jump at top level was too much for a lot of them.

Flyweights who couldn't do the weight safely anymore either had to put themselves in danger and dedydrate or jump up to bantam where history tells us they usually got their arsed kicked because they were too small. Same with Bantam to Feather (and most other weights for that mater).

What are those fighters options to continue fighting at the level that had previously?

Theres nothing wrong at all to have preferences but when you are arrogant enough to proclaim that your preference means you are a "true boxing fan" (and it does happen), thats when it gets into snobbery. Its just an attempt to put someones elses opinion down as being ignorant and that of a person who doesn't really appreciate boxing just because it differs from your.

Bull****.He DIDNT perform at that elite level,he got wiped out.
Moreover Khan And Witter for starters would have lasted longer and given Pac a tougher fight before losing,so your 'only British boxer capable' line is wrong too. There WERE British fighters more capable.

Dont talk bollocks. For a start, how could you even justify either Kahn or Witter stepping in the ring with Pac. Manny came down to Hattons weight class because Hatton was regarded as the best 10 stoner on the planet.

You are the one talking bollocks.Im not justifying Khan or Witter getting in with Pac,they havent earned it,but his point was Hatton was the only Brit who could compete with Pac which is crap.He DIDNT compete,he was battered.......whereas, worthy or not, those 2 would almost definately have been more competitive and fared better than suffering 2 KD'S & 1 KO within 2 rounds.
Witter, for eg, wont get a fight with Pac because he's not a draw, but you really believe he wouldnt have given Pac a tougher and longer fight?
    Behave yourself.
