Sorry if it's been posted before but this is by far the best Quarry tribute I've ever seen and it's one of the best tributes in general that I've seen.

I seen him live in many great fights in MSG, Mac Foster 24-0 24KO's an exciting KO, Earnie Shavers, exciting 1 rd KO and a beat down of the undefeated Ron Lyle, then i saw him in the Nassau Colosseum Ko Joe Alaxander after getting dropped hard
It is very sad to see fighters Quarry and Ali go out this way

    Good Post

So sad what ahppen to him, he was right about it being a cruel sport. Seeing this make it totally understandable why current fighters like Haye want to retire fairly young.

From the greatest fighters down to the marginal fighters, they risk everything any time they enter the ring.

    God bless them all.

When I think of long running contenders who could have grabbed a part of the World Championship in the alphabet era, Quarry is near the top of the list.

for sure he shared an era with prime Ali and Frazier but he pretty much handled the rest, even the bigger, slower men and Quarry was sub-200 and sub 6"

Good thoughts. We are so guilty here of dismissing with a wave of the hand the efforts of fighters who don't meet our approval (as if that should mean anything) because they got hit too much, or their footwork wasn't as nimble as so-and-so's or whatever.

Imagine how different his story would have been had there been a Crusierweight title at the time? Jerry Quarry - possibly the greatest Crusierweight of all time that never was..
