like any moron in the general section even knows what henry armstrong looks like much less anything about his boxing ability
iirc armstrong was like 5`5 and imho i think floyd reach and size prove too much and he wins by close decision in a thrilling fight.
Homicide Hank suffocates Floyd in Violence, not one second's respite for Mayweather in any round, easy UD for the main man who held Featherweight/Lightweight & Welterweight title's all at the same time.
Well I know a good deal about Homicidal Hank, and while I consider him a top 3 P4P fighter ever, he wasn't the biggest WW. It wouldn't be some kind of 1 sided drubbing that most people think it would've been. Hank was a pressure fighter who did his best work on the inside. In this hypothetical matchup, Hank clearly has the power advantage. BUt the height and reach advantages heavily favor FLoyd as do overall boxing skillset and defense. People can glorify the fighters of the past all they want and make them sound like they were invincible, but he was someone who could be defeated at the WW limit. Possibly the greatest LW ever aside from Duran, Benny Leonard and Gans, but he was a small WW that was very beatable.
And this is the kind of drivel that I was expecting to read. Thanks for that insightful post. By the way, I'm being very sarcastic as you probably never saw Armstrong fight if you think he'd cruise to a clear UD over FLoyd at 147. I can understand people thinking guys like Ray Robinson, Leonard, Burley and Hearns would have their way with FLoyd at 147 lbs, but not someone as small as Hank Armstrong. FLoyd is a tough out for pretty much anyone at 130-147. I'm not saying he'd beat Hank, but it would be a very competitive fight. There's plenty of guys on Armstrong's resume who weren't half as good as FLoyd that went the distance with Hank in competitive fights at 147. To think FLoyd wouldn't be able to is just silly and nostalgia skewing actual perception of how the fight would play out.
So guys like Reuben SHank (18-3-3) and Willie JOyce (46-6-7) can beat Armstrong in a decision yet FLoyd would get whitewashed by Hank? Ok, that really makes sense to me now. Personally I don't think Henry could deal with FLoyd's defense. I don't think Mayweather would sit too much in the pocket against an offensive virtuoso like Armstrong, he'd have to utilize his footwork and move around the ring all 15 rounds and try to keep a good amount of distance and utilize his accurate jabs and lead shots. His counterpunching would have to be very crisp in that fight as there would be plenty of instances for FLoyd to work those in as well. Once again, I don't know how the fight would actually play out, but I don't think Armstrong would "dominate" FLoyd.
