Saw these names being knocked around in another thread, which got me thinking about a potentially great British fight a few years down the line. How do you guys think this would go? I think obviously at this moment in time Froch would have far too much for Cleverly to handle. However I see a great deal of potential in Cleverly and if he can develop a tighter defence I could see him giving Carl a lot to think about in an absolute barn stormer of a fight! The build up would be great as well, all England v Wales clashes tend to be pretty heated. Could even imagine Calzaghe adding a few words in a press conference backing his welsh mate up and having a few digs at Froch!
Froch too strong for this kid. Can we really put this kid in such a comparison as he has fought NOBODY yet. I still think Brauemer wud **** him.
I think it would be a great fight. Cleverly has a great engine, good chin and is a busy fighter. Froch is the same, but has the experience to go with it. Both have poor defence. Even though Froch has been there and done it, i'm not 100% convinced his strength would dent Cleverly for the full 12 rounds. I could see Clev taking a close points decision.
Low left hand vs tall rangy quick handed youngster hmmmmm. Clev all wrong for Froch - wins wide UD in a barn burner (is barn burner 1 word?).
The same could be said for Froch being too open for Cleverly, who could also be regarded as an accumulation puncher. I don't see how it would be an absolute beatdown. Both have very similar characteristics. The only difference is age/experience.
Has Cleverly fought anyone near Froch's level? Has Froch fought anyone near Cleverly's level. I think that answers many questions tbh.
As I've said, the big difference is age/experience. Of course Froch has been in with better opposition. That doesn't automatically mean he gives Cleverly a one sided beatdown though. We'll no doubt have a better idea when Cleverly steps up again.
