I agree that Marciano was the better inside fighter, he knew more tricks on the inside.

Walcott never would have caught Ali like Frazier did

Two different styles. Walcott might’ve won that one. it’d be a terrible fight though.

He wouldn't have been applying the pressure like Frazier did.

Ali was easy to hit in that fight and was always open to hooks.

I didn´t read the comments but I am sure people picked Frazier, busier, could throw better combinations...

It would be a brawl, many punches landed ! When that happen the puncher has a advantage. Marciano would KO Frazier, he would finish the business that Bonavena did, Frazier could not trade without being knocked down. Rocco would end the fight then, how he could not ? Frazier would still be coming at him.

No way Frazier wins this. Marciano, KO, while being behind in the points.

Are you saying Bonavena had a harder punch than Rocky ?

He didn´t, Bonavena never koed a top tier opponent. Weight has nothing to do with it.

Rocky would time Frazier weave, and hit him with right hands... Timing, there you have Rocky´s best attribute. Lack of timing in head movement is where you have Frazier´s biggest flaw, he used to came back in the center many times after a slip.

It only took Frazier one fight against Ali to drop Joe down a notch in the quality of his performance. I think it would only take one fight against Rocky to do the same. If they have only one fight, I think it's a toss-up. In a series of fights, I think Rocky prevails just as Ali did against Frazier. Joe's aggressive, straight-ahead style made him less durable than most elite fighters in a career-wise sense. Rocky's slanted crouch and ever-vigilant-modified-ducking style of defense allowed him to avoid taking the brunt of a punch's full force even when it landed. By modified ducking I mean that Rocky never ducked so low as to take him out of punching range. He would bob and weave and come up from the floor on the opposite side to land a counter. He was relentless like the counter-weight on an old grandfather's clock, if you know what I mean.

It's a hell of a fight but I have to favor Joe who had 17 - 20 pounds on him and was proven against stronger guys ... both would be terrific tests for each other ...

Well said, totally agree with this. Look at Ezzard Charles, a top-ten P4P ATG who, despite what all the size-mongers would have us believe, would absolutely box the socks off of any HW today: When Rocky got through with him, he was a wreck.
