I know Oscar Bonavena is a bum, but let's face it. Some bums on the street pack a serious punch. My uncle got jacked by a bum last week. Knocked him out cold and took his inhaler and $15.00. So Frazier getting floored by a "bum" is not a failure.

As for Sonny, think of this. The whole reason why Ali dropped him with the infamous "phantom punch" is because Sonny was off balance coming in with a punch of his own. If Ali hurt him while coming in, think of the danger of a Foreman punch connecting as Sonny attempting to storm inside. Disaster.

I'm about 99.9999% sure Foreman wouldn't be able to counter Liston with a lightning quick right hand straight down the pipe

That Hopkins Lamotta thread was one of the best examples ive had of this recently

rate hopkins as a better fighter whod beat most people but lamotta has a very good chance of winning a decision through aggresion

I know most people pick whitaker but I really just dont know what would happen in a Whitaker Mayweather fight...think it could go either way

I'm glad you asked this Flea.

Gomez is indeed a better fighter, flat out. So let me break this one down. Gomez is seemingly the perfect package. He can keep pressure on in a steady methodical fashion, i l admire this so much, how he keeps a man on the backfoot, against the ropes, at arms length. When he's in that mode and his man makes attempts to come forward and escape the ropes, he uses either great footwork to sidestep and counter, or simply makes some room for a powershot and keeps them in check. Gomez can box beautifully also, great jab that can control a bout. He can box circles around world class opponents and work in body shots that factor in for a breaking down. When you think of a perfect way to fight in your head, in my opinion it looks like Wilfredo Gomez in action at his best at 122 pounds. If there is one thing you could point out as a 'negative' imo it is that he was somewhat predictable- jab jab, right hand, lefto to the body. But the pace and tempo of the bout was such that it would take something supernatural to take advantage of this.

Morales at 122 was a force of nature-esque being. Never had the overall defensive make-up of a Gomez, or maybe didn't care much for such. He had accurate hands, a chin of granite, and heart and will to win which is admirable even by Marco Antonio Barrera, to be blunt, a warrior with a skillset on attack of the highest order.

Even with his great durability, Gomez should exploit Morales and stop him, and when Morales wades in with sluggish comeback attempts the smooth Gomez should counter nicely. But here's the 'catch', i can't see Morales getting contained with pressure and getting hit against the ropes then countered and schooled whenever he takes up business in centre ring. When Morales exerts pressure he scores points, he never stops trying, and he explodes when under attack himself. Morales is beatable, no doubt, but at his best he tests anyone, his right hand was enough to beat Manny Pacquiao by itself when possibly over the hill as a complete machine.

Don't get me wrong, i'd never go on the record and pick Morales, but it's hard for me to see him being 'contained' by any man, ever.

I'll say Marciano-Ali then. The only thing that throws me off is the size aspect, if we could talk pound for pound in a heavyweight sense then i very well might pick Marciano. As it is i would probably stick to my thinking that Ali might beat every heavyweight that ever lived.

Um... Oscar Bonavena is far from a bum. I'm not referring to Oscar Bonavena. Of course it's not a failure. I think it shows Rocky was just superior in chin. I'm not going to continue arguing this since it's pointless at this point.
