Let me add that this was a fun thread, thanks for sharing. Oh, and let's go Pavlik tomorrow night!!! :happy
I like it. Lennox is one of my very favorites. Thanks for taking the time to give your assessment of how the tournament would play out.:good Was fun to read what you thought. Now 2 last questions: 1. What if Wlad was in the line up? 2. Bowe vs. Foreman?
Round 1, Tyson over Frazier, Tyson did everything better. Tyson 3rd round TKO. Ali/Lennox- good scrap, 12 rounds I would say a draw, 15 rounds I would say Ali, Ali was a master of winning the championship rounds, he would also come in with the better stamina and speed, foot and hand. Ali wins overall. Foreman/Holyfield- Foreman in the 70's would take it to Holyfield, who had a great heart, but his chin is somewhat overrated and will be tested against Foreman, I will go with Foreman by 5th round TKO. Liston/Bowe- Liston had the reach, comparable on power, Liston has him beat on the outside, while Bowe would maul him on the inside. This one's pretty close IMO, but I'm going with a prime Bowe by 10th round TKO, in a slugfest of sorts.
Thanks Punisher!:good You are also one of the top HW analysist on ESB. I agree with your pick on Foreman/Holyfield. Others have taken Holy, but I saw Old George giving Holyfield HELL, so I assume the young George could do it! Would you mind matching round 2 to your liking, and who would win? Thank you for participating.:good
Nice! I think you're not giving Lewis due credit here though but I'm sure many would say I'm not giving Ali enough credit. It's all good. I'll easily give Ali the speed edge & the combos too but Lewis had the size & jab to set up his power punches. Ali had a great chin but how many of those would it take? :huh
I'll re-visit those tomorrow, I need to sign off or my wife will fall asleep & I won't get any....................
Oh yeah, this is what I was hoping for! ESB's top HW afficianados comparing thoughts on this Fantasy scenario. I'm lookin to learn something here.:yep
I must say I'm not completely sure on the Foreman/Holyfield fight and the Liston/Bowe fight could go either way as well. Ruskull- Here's my opinion on Tyson/Holyfield, not sure if you considered this. Tyson/Holyfield- I think this fight would be very interesting, we all remember Bert Cooper, a short hooker if you will. He and his trainers, as well as Frazier helped him to adopt Tysons style as well as his numbers system Cus helped create. Cooper gave Holyfield one hell of a tough fight, Tyson would do more IMO. Tyson would pressure him and make him go toe to toe with him, Holyfields heart would get him through Tyson's early round assualt, but by the mid to late rounds he will not only be beat up, but his stamina will start looking bad as well. Tysons too fast, powerful, and aggressive for Holyfield, 9th round TKO. Foreman/Tyson- Tyson's head movement will help him dodge alot of Foremans attacks, and the way George threw a uppercut on the inside, could make Tyson's night alot easier on the inside, where he will have to get most of his work down, and blasting Big Georges body, making him tire out by the mid rounds, giving Tyson all the openings he needs. Tyson by 6th round TKO. Ali would have a field day with Bowe, the jab would really do damage, and Ali's holding on the inside will be just enough to keep Bowe's inside attack at bay. Ali would win a 12 round decision, dancing and jabbing his way to an easy victory.
UM TO JUST TO ADD A QUESTION TO THIS THREAD Does anyone think that Prime Foreman's chin is overrated? I think that as he got older and put on weight his chin became much better as he was more of a squat, centered guy. I don't think the Foreman of 92 goes down on the flurry Ali hit him with. Nor the punches Lyle hit him with. Just something to ponder when evaluating primes I think.... Great thread by the way!
Foremans chin did get better HOF'er, but what Ali did was frustrate him and make him blow his load early in the fight, the 110 plus ring temp. didnt help either. All Ali had to do was look for an opening and practically push him over, Foreman didnt lose based on Ali's punches, he lost mentally, Ali was one of the first to take everything Foreman had and not go anywhere, you must remember Foreman blasted out both Frazier and Norten in a couple rounds, he really thought he would do the same to Ali.
Good question, I would take 94 George just barely, though I feel 91 George was him at his best when he fought Holyfield. Old George paced himself, young George didnt, which at times left him wide open to be countered(Lyle) or be outworked and outboxed, especially down the stretch(Young). Old George didnt have as much killer instinct and the rage , but he did still have the power and chose to pick his spots wisely, instead of throwing punches from every angle possible looking for something big to land. Old George over young George by 6th round knockout, Old George would let him blow his load, while picking his shots and countering with the jab and the straight right when he seen fit, Old George would probably KO him with a counter punch he never seen coming via Moorer, and young George left himself wide open enough for that too happen.
