He was heavier. In NO WAY do I think he was stronger than Haye. He was a big heavy, unathletic lump.

Dempsey has the same chance against Haye,as...

    Owens has against Bolt.

Frederick Puskas has of being an international superstar in the modern soccer era.

Babe Ruth has of outhitting A-Rod.

Wilt Chamberlain of shutting down Shaq.

Of Jim Browne dominating in modern NFL...

See where im going with this?????

Ward on fight night is probably about 180-185. Which is in and around what Dempsey weighed.

He'd be far more skilled and conditioned. What exactly is your problem with what i said.

You mean someone beefed up between their late teens and early 30's!?! Someone alert the BBBofC and get them to suspend his boxing license. This is unheard of in the field of human biology!

There isn't even an option for a Dempsey KO..jesus christ.

I know, I know..."typo" pick the second Haye KO option. Thread starter is crazy, so is anyone who votes for Haye.

I think its unfair and stupid to compare fighters of different eras but in head to head match I'd pick Haye by early stoppage. :think

For boxing? Absolutely nothing relevant, other than the fact PED's have riddled both boxing and sprinting for decades, something neither Dempsey or Owens had.

Still, just to put your argument in perspective....100 meters is roughly 328 feet.

Jessie Owens' time of 10.3 seconds is 0.72 seconds slower than Usain Bolt's current world record. That means, for all the modern advances in training, supplements/ped's, equipment, and nutrition, the difference over 328 feet is still only 72 hundreths of a second. How much advantage would that translate to in an 18x18 ring?

Bolt's time is approximately 7.5% better than Owens'. It's like saying I'd have a significant edge over a fighter from 90 years ago who could only bench press 300 lbs when I can bench 325. Same ratio. The difference is hardly the wide gulf that it gets painted out to be, and it's nothing that couldn't be overcome by superior skill, technique, conditioning or toughness.

Haye would get KTFO'd if he fought Dempsey, ugly and early.

    No.

He wouldn't. He wouldn't even be in the same ballpark of skill level.

    Not to mention toughess.

And he'd have fifteen to twenty pounds on Ward and be around the same height.

It appears you know very little of fighters of earlier eras.

Please listen to one of the great students of the game (Mike Tyson) as he gives his take on Dempsey.
