After watching Gamboa against Barros and following Gamboa for awhile now, I've concluded that he'd be somewhat difficult opponent for Floyd, albeit he'd be difficult for any opponent. But I didn't find Gamboa all that impressive against Barros today. I was expecting more a technical Gamboa. I wish he would follow gameplans but his ego is too big for it, which is a serious flaw. Gamboa I saw today is a stylistic nightmare for a counterpuncher because of his agility and speed for in and out movement. He also exhibits much lateral movement while using excellent ring generalship. His handspeed is spectacular so it would be hard to beat him to the punch and not get hit coming out. However, Floyd is Floyd and I think Floyd will adjust to Gamboa's style by subtly setting the pace of the fight with the use quick jabs complimented by his longer reach. Rather than trying to beat Gamboa to the punch or initiating offense, Floyd would be better off setting traps and capitalizing on Gamboa's defensive mistakes. A 126-130 lb Floyd has excellent handspeed and movement. But I really doubt he will able to dominate like he does with every other opponent by potshotting. Gamboa has a tendancy to not keep his right guard to his chin, so I'm sure Floyd will seek to land sweeping lead left hooks on every opportunity while immediately stepping out to avoid retaliation from Gamboa. Conclusion: Floyd W over Gamboa via UD. Very difficult matchup for Floyd. Would have loved to see this. (assuming Gamboa and Floyd's age difference is minimal and both in their prime) What are yall's thoughts on a fantasy Mayweather vs. Gamboa? I wish Gamboa was atleast 145 and stacked with a undefeated, great resume so it'd be a slight possibility that it would happen but we all know it won't. No disrespect to Juanma fans, but this all assuming Gamboa as of right now against Floyd back when he was in Gamboa's weight class.
