If there was a fantasy WBSS at Heavyweight between the top 8 fighters as rated by The Ring, how would it play out. Using The Ring rankings the seeded fighters would be: 1- Anthony Joshua 2- Deontay Wilder 3- Luis Ortiz 4- Dillian Whyte The Unseeded fighters are: Alexander Povetkin Joseph Parker Tyson Fury Dominic Breazeale Don't forget in WBSS format the Joshua picks his opponent first, then Wilder, then Ortiz then Whyte is left with whoever hasn't been picked. The winner of the AJ fight goes against the winner of the Ortiz fight in the semi's and the winner of the Wilder fights goes against the winner of the Whyte fight before the winners of both fights meet. How does this fight play out? Who picks who, who wins overall?
It will be absolutely hilarious if or when Usyk were to enter the HW WBSS The triggering it will cause on here after he won that would be legendary. “B.. Bu.. But he still untested doe!!”
For me: THE DRAW: Joshua picks Fury. he's already beaten the other 3, this would be the most profitable fight and Joshua will believe Fury isn't ready for him after being on the lash for 2 and a half years. Wilder picks Breazeale because he worse than Povetkin & Parker. My hunch is Ortiz would pick Parker as opposed to fellow drug cheat Povetkin. Whyte is left with Povetkin. Quarter Finals: Joshua stops Fury because while Fury MAY be ready for Wilder, he's certainly not ready for Joshua. Parker stops old man Ortiz when he gasses out. Wilder manages to get off the floor to stop Breazeale Povetkin wins a hard fought decisions over Whyte Semis:: Joshua beats Parker again, this time stopping him. Povetkin obliterates Wilder within 3 rounds Final: Joshua beats Povetkin, a little quicker than he did last month. Winner: Anthony Joshua
From what I've seen, if there is anything that will cause mass triggering is Usyk himself being beaten by Bellew
If your draw would be there Fury UD Joshua Ortiz KO Parker Wilder KO Breazeale Povetkin KO Whyte Fury SD Ortiz Wilder KO Povetkin Fury UD Wilder
If Fury doesn't draw Wilder before AJ does, I'd feel very confident in a Fury win. He schools AJ. AJ beats Wilder. No one else would be any real threat to him. I just think it's a tough style matchup for Fury with Wilder.
But who do you think each fighter would draw. Joshua could well just draw Breazeale, for a guaranteed victory in a rematch nobody wants but I think he'd be confident of beating Fury in a fight people do want. Personally also think if AJ did draw Breazeale, whoever Wilder draws he's out first round
Joshua picks Breazeale (Who wouldn't?) Wilder picks Povetkin (Parker too young, fresh and aggressive, Fury too risky) Ortiz picks Parker Whyte picks Fury Joshua-Breazeale: Joshua win by KO 9th round Wilder-Povetkin: Povetkin win by TKO 10th round Ortiz-Parker: Ortiz by decision, 8-4 Whyte-Fury: Fury by decision, 9-3 Joshua-Ortiz: Joshua win by KO 5th round Povetkin-Fury: Povetkin win by KO 11th round (Povetkin too aggressive with those hooks for Fury to control) Joshua-Povetkin: Joshua win by KO 9th round (Povetkin improves but ultimately AJ gets to him) That ended weirdly. Would have had Fury winning the tournament had he not been matched against Povetkin, who I believe would be a nightmare for him.
But how do you predict the tournament plays out? If AJ feels Fury is as big a threat as you do, then he has a choice of 3 guys he's already proven he can beat P. S. I'm talking here about current version of Fury that's going into the Wilder fight, not Fury from the Wlad fight
Since when you have the choice who you want to fight? It's a random draw. Seeded fighter vs unseeded fighter. No choice to pick an opponent?!
Yeah but it's a bit unfair imo in the HWD as you can probably pick the smallest opponent...in other weight classes there is a limit.
Have you never seen a WBSS draw? For example, in the Super Middle one, Groves was top seed picked Cox, Smith was 2nd seed picked Skolund, Eubank (or his dad) picked Yildrim & Brahmer was left with Brant
Having a HW WBSS without Hughie Fury would be like having a Sunday roast without Yorkshire pudding. Slick Hughie slips and slides his way into the final.
How is it unfair to pick the smallest. You can still pick who you deem the worst opponent to be regardless of weight class. And look at this example. You could pick Povetkin or Parker because they are smaller than Breazeale but it's certainly not an easier fight
