you think i thought wrong, but theres always doubt in everything i say, i aint a complete mug and fully believe every word i type i knew joe had a massive chance of victory, i wasnt saying it coz i didnt need to everyone else was saying it.. i was backing roy, so i was making a case for him.. i could have easily said, hes past it, washed up titos nowhere near joes ability, he got knocked out by johson, and tarver who dont apply nowhere near the quality pressure of joe, theres no way roy can win unless its a knockout which is doubtfull blah blah blah.. hes got a glass chin.. etc
Dude, didn't we have a 3 month avatar bet? I've deleted the PM's now though so unfortunately I can't prove it.
You didn't say that though. And people can only assume that's because you didn't believe it. But it was obvious to most observers. This was actually a relatively easy fight to call.
Calzaghe pitty patted then delivered a good body shot most of the time. Whats wrong with that, Jones covered up from the pitty patty and Calzaghe picked the hard shot to the body. If Jones is consistenly going to cover up for the pitty patty punches why wouldn't Joe capitalise? :huh Does he have to win by taking major punishment to impress you?
come on jeff, eubank jones and hopkins could all be considered to be past it, but hopkins clearly showed he wasnt against pavlik for a start, they are all legends joe has beaten without doubt. he will be given less credit for the wins over lacy and kessler but both were great wins, lacy was favoured to knock him out and ended up losing every round, kessler is far better then hes given credit for, remember he was undefeated before he met joe, kessler still is a great fighter. the wins joe will be given barely any credit for such as woodhall, reid and mitchell were far better then have been percieved. i think joe boxed well last night, yes he acted a twat with his showboating, but it worked and i honestly think it was a better jones in there then against johnson and tarver. i think calzaghe needs to be given more credit, end of the day he has had a protected and smart career for the majority of it, but he has still thought the big names too and i have every faith that whoever joe fights between 160-175 he will always find a way to win. he cant be knocked out he has so many different styles its unreal he has such a high workrate that noone can match him or deal with him and thats the long and the short of it:good p.s if joe had changed his career in anyway i am sure he would not be retiring as wealthy as he is, with an undefeated record so i would say he has done very well
hes OLD, but back to normal!! - meaning he aint feeling like a woman who just gave birth to tripplets can u see that point i made, an old jones whos found a balance from loosing all the weight, can beat joe calslappy.. if he was 6 years younger he would have knocked joe out in the first round
yh but joe didnt throw that many punches, roy would have had the higher workrate and landed more punches, joe used to just look for the big punch, he didnt used to pitty pat
Agree with this Jeff! I do think as well that Kessler will dominate SMW for years to come so maybe in a few years time Joe will get the credit he deserves!
I actually don't I think he's massively over-rated and would be completely dominated by Pavlik, Hopkins, Dawson and various other around the weight class. Kessler is simply benefitting from an empty Super Middleweight division the same way Joe and Sven Ottke did for years. I'd give Froch more then a good chance against him. The Super Middleweight division is one of the few divisions in boxing right now where the titles make the fighters not the other way round.
He has done well, and he's a good chap- he's achieved an incredible ammount of statistical success. But before people start proclaiming him the second coming of Sugar Ray Robinson ;-) his CV is vulnerable to critism. The Lacy and Kessler wins were his most impressive but they have yet to achieve anything themselves that makes them stand out from the other belt holders and in 10-15 years time no-one is going to remember who they are. Lacy is now shot to bits and Kessler is no great shakes. My point is that with respect, the only guys on his record who mean anything in terms of history were way, way past their prime when Joe beat them. Yes 46-0 is a tremendous accomplishment and all these title fights wins are incredible but when you watch Joe on DVD its hardly like watching Oscar De La Hoya or Julio Cesar Chavez is it?
exactly, if their were to be a rematch with anyone i'd love to see kessler vs calzaghe again, to see if JC can still take those big bombs kessler landed, do'nt know bout the weight situation mind you.
