Hi steve, im doing soem college coursework in media based on the media attention boxing gets compared to sports like football and rugby. and also how british fighters are represented over seas in the media. this week on your boxing hour you touched on how america portray british fighters as sacrifices to big named american champions (gary lockett etc) just wanted to know what your views are on why the media portrays british fighters in a poor light in countrys such as america. also boxing had a bit of a dip in popularity due to a lack of coverage but its working its way back up now thanks to you guys at setanta and ITV coverage. in what ways to setanta choose which fights to air to the public? cheers Luke
I reckon the yanks just think they are the best of the best at everything and how dare a UK fighter try and share a ring with them hehe I agree with you on boxings popularity though, it seems that these days more and more people are getting into it and Setanta are giving us much more of the top fights that dont include a british fighter as well as the ones that do and that can only be a good thing. I was surprised at how many casual fans thought Hatton would have walked through PBF but I suppose at that time Floyd wasnt getting the exposure in the UK the way our homegrown fighters did (that and the fact they're on at about 4 am lol )
