Another idea "borrowed" from another forum. What are some boxing rumors you know of that, surprisingly, turned out to be true. And let's stick to things that are pretty much confirmed, not things like "Liston took a dive," where a lot of people believe it but we haven't heard anything totally confirming it.

I'll start with Emile Griffith being gay. Until recently, homosexuality wasn't really understood, or even acknowledged much, by society. So you'd never think that a rough tough fighter could possibly be gay.

George Foreman will not win a decision against Shannon Briggs. Okay, in the investigation the people who were accused were cleared. But the fact remains that Briggs won a decision in a fight that most observers thought he lost.

The thread says rumors that are confirmed. Not what we think happened.

But for The record, I think it's blatantly obvious Kovalev held back. He kept throwing pitter patter jabs all night and went down from the first major flush hit Canelo landed in spite of the fact Canelo's power isn't all that amazing at 168, let alone a ranked fighter at 175.

When I heard Frank Maloney was going through 'gender reassignment' and becoming Kellie Maloney I said, "What a load of crap!" How little I knew.

And Smith and Fielding were also scared to sit on their punches. It must be one huge conspiracy.

If Kovalev did throw the fight what would his motivations for doing so be ?? Was he promised a payoff for intentionally losing ?? I'm not dismissing or accepting the theory but it would help your argument if you explained why you think Kovalev threw the fight.
Another possible explanation for Kovalev's poor performance was he was mentally beaten beforehand and wanted to take as few risks as possible in the fight, take as little as damage as possible and thus preserve himself, take his payday and move on to more winnable fights.

Doesn’t seem far fetched anymore, but the Shane Mosley steroid rumors were around way before it was confirmed.

    Morrison HIV.

Michael Nunn coming back in his 50s.

It could also be that Canelo throws unpleasant counter punches and it makes opponents hesitant to commit.

Kovalev is completely shot. No chin resistance anymore whatsoever which is why Canelo took the easy route with him and ignored Bivol

It hurt your feelings that Canelo knocked out Vodkalev.

Held back because every right hand he threw was quickly countered with a left hook.

Sounds right to me. How many times do we see fighters adjust to there opponent, all the time. Styles make fights and you can’t go winging in against Canelo, he will time you onto a corker and punish you.
