Trainer Willie Reddish smeared a caustic agent on Sonny Liston's gloves in his title defense against Muhammad Ali on Feb 25 1964, in Miami Beach, Florida, after round 4, meant to blind Ali. The second Ali vs Liston fight on May 25 1965 was fixed, the result of The Phantom Punch in round 1.

So now this turned into another "all Canelo do is cheat" thread? How many posters' better halves has this guy ****ed?

LaMotta-Fox was fixed? I'm just guessing there were rumours before Jake admitted it.

Speaking of money, you missed the part about a Kovalev fight drawing a lot more money than a Bivol fight in 2019.

Doesnt change the fact he took the easiest route just to pick up a belt and then drop it. If your trying to build a legacy go after competitive guys not washed up guys that once had a name.

It’s conveniently written off that Kovalev was having a very good year until he fought Canelo. Gvozdyk wasn’t better than him. Bivol and Beterbiev could have been, but had little name recognition or big fight experience.

A better year how. He gets stunned with every solid shot that lands on him.
Yard could have had him if he settled down a bit.

I dont know why it shouldnt. I'd think every unbiased boxing fan realize that Canelo has cheated eg Clen Gate. Even The NSAC couldnt get him out of that one & gave him a slap on the wrist. Its a well known saying that Canelo would never be allowed to lose a decision in Vegas & that proved true
Really Floyd laid down the blue print for the corruption & Canelo has merely taken over the mantle. Boxing is corrupt & everyone knows it & sadly accepts it

Fielding was trash Euro level and it showed. He got brutally stopped in a couple rounds from body shots due to his lanky malnourished frame.

Liam Smith? He wasn't scared at all, he was one of the few guys to actually go toe to for with Canelo and paid for it. Or do you mean his brother? Callum just sucks and has a very awkward robotic style. He's a stiff clubbing type of puncher. Idk if you watched it on dazn, but Demtrius Andrade accused him of "not trying to win".

So I gUeSs AnDrAde Is In On ThE cOnSpIrAcY tOo.

Stfu with the straw mans and putting words in people's mouths. It tiresome. Smith and Fielding had nothkng whatsoever to do with Kovalev.

My accusations that Kovalev didn't look like his usual self are the fact he didn't look like his usual self. If it was due to him being gunshy and washed up or he held back and took a dive, I have no idea. But he didn't really look like was giving it his all and threw pitter patter shots all night. Reminded me of Wladmir vs Fury without the dramatic finish.

Maybe he didn’t want to gas against one of the beat body punchers in the game or get countered by one of the best counterpunchers in the game. It happened anyway.

I won't speculate since I have not see any solid evidence indicating why Kovalev held back. All I know is that he looked like complete garbage in that fight. Those jabs wouldn't have hurt a 12 year old. It wasn't like he was throwing out solid piston like jabs the way Spence or Liston did.

So yeah, it looks pretty damn suspicious when we've seen Kovalev throw much harder jabs before (whilst dominating opponents and controlling range) AND he hardly threw any other punches or combinations. I cannot recall seeing any hooks, uppers, body shots, not even a solid right hand or 1-2. Had Canelo just blasted him out within the first 3 rounds people would have likely accused them of fixing the fight Even more than they already. Maybe that's why Canelo just had a high guard walking him down like a dollar store Frazier for so many rounds.

What you didn't address in my post was that Kovalev isn't the most durable guy but he isn't glass jawed either. And Canelo isn't a 1 punch KO type of guy and rarely stops elite fighters. So put 2 and 2 together: a guy who lacks destructive power moves up in weight (his 4th division actually) to fight a world class opponent and brutally KO's him with the first solid shot he lands? That didn't raise an eyebrow to you? Has that even happened in the history of the sport?

This would be like Manny Pacquiao knocking out Charlo with 1 punch.

Wanting to avoid gassing out or getting countered doesn't=/=throwing nothing but pitter patter jabs all night.

Mayweather fought a dangerous counter puncher in Marquez and dismantled him without just throwing light shots as if he were sparring.

Same thing with the recent Spence vs Danny Garcia fight. Spence sat down on his punches and marked Danny up, nearly stopping him in a few rounds. Spence was cautious to avoid counters while blasting Danny at the same time.

Plenty of boxers have faced good body punchers without fighting the way Kovalev did.

So either you're saying Kovalev sucks and doesn't know how to make adjustments or you're admitting it looks weird for a world class champion boxer to just throw pitter patter jabs every round.

Those comparisons are weak. Kovalev tried to Euro his way to a decision like he did against Eleider Alvarez. It was halfway successful against Canelo but ultimately failed.

    Now Kovalev is Euro level.

Quit deflecting and accept he held back or say you think Kovalev sucks/is washed up. None of these excuses make any sense.
