Great read, but I wouldn't really call it sad.
He has something (the gold medal) that very, very few people have. That's special. As he says, nobody can take that away from him.
Financially he could be better off, but he's not starving. It sounds like he's doing alright.

I was reading his chapter in the Facing Tyson book again the other day, and he sounds like a good, likeable guy, and an honest sort. He openly admits he's take what he had back in a second if given the chance, which is in contrast to some others in that book.

I wonder if he would have done better in the pro's, had he not been thrown in there against Tyson who had it in for him to begin with. Maybe he wouyld have done better n another era, had he not gotten involved with drugs.
He had some quite impressive skills, and a great, great jab. Plenty of heart too, as he once overcame a broken collarbone to win a fight.

I find it sad if only for sense of someone not being able to do all he could. There are ex-boxers with worse stories for sure, unfortunately, but Biggs could've done better and having his '84 success overshadowed by the Tyson fight is a real shame.

Yeah, that's true. Winning a gold medal is a great accomplishment. Biggs was a hell of an amateur.
