He made the most of what he had, some solid wins, great decision to retire, good on the lad. Hope he does well as a promoter.
It's too bad he ended the way he did. Tszyu, was one of the best fighters I have ever seen, and maybe the best ever at 140.
He was a fun fighter to watch and reminded me abit of Gatti, even tho Hatton was more of a pressure fighter. He did have a beauty of a left hook. I hope he enjoys his retirement.:thumbsup
This sport is SOOO funny. The dude lost....TWICE. He was beat by the #1 Pound For Pound Fighters in the WORLD and that is enough to say "He is shot and should hang them up"? Man, this is funny. Not even in his middle thirties but is being considered "shot"? Funny.
It happens. Vargas was shot when he was way younger than Hatton is now. I think it's the right decision, he was never going to have a long career with all that constant weight-draining he was doing. Best of luck to him, at least he had the balls to fight the best when they were at the top of their game. Unlike certain Welsh wankers I could mention but won't.
Much of this is mental. He looked the same in all of his fights, except the Pacquiao fight. There he looked over trained. However, after Mayweather, he looked the same. His fighting style was never pretty. I think he just got punked by his fans and media. Once doubt settles in, then retirement is next door because you can't fight with fear. I understand your point.
He has given us nights of greatness in the last 10 or so years. I can honestly say I have never enjoyed watching a fighter as much as him in my life, especially with the fact that I am also from England. I am glad he has retired though, as I don't ever want to see that scene which we all witnessed at the end of round 2, on May the 2nd last year; and any of the calibre fighters which it would be worth him facing (Marquez, Alexander, Bradley etc.) all stand a chance at KO-ing anyone in their weight class. But to be fair I would have loved to have seen him fight Juan Manuel Marquez, or Miguel Cotto at some point, if not now. But in the end I'm glad he has retired. I wish him all the best with his promoting.
I'm surprised he's retiring, and I would almost expect to see him turn up in the ring in the next year or two regardless of what he says he's doing. I was looking foward to a Hatton-JMM fight. I figured we'd get a Hatton tune up fight in England this summer and a big ppv fight with JMM at the end of the year. Then, win or lose, he'd finish up his career in a British superfight with Khan. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
