30 may seem young but he has been a pro for 10 years. It's a long time especially when you have a style where you take a lot of shots like George did.
These fighters know when to quit. It's their bodies . No one else sees it only they do and they feel it .whether it's mental or physical
He ran from one war to another. Since Froch, there has been maybe 1 or 2 nights where Groves took no punishment. Even Jamie Cox managed to make it rough. Not only do those fights take a physical toll, it's also mental. Which is evident in Groves retiring so young. He had the fight beaten out of him.
Can’t say I blame him,he’s been to the well and had to rebuild a few too many times and knows what it entails. One of the good guys and had a good boxing brain.
Good decision and he had a great career. British, Commonwealth, European, and world champion. Beat DeGale, Murray, Chudinov, CEJ, Glen Johnson (old) Gutknecht, Cox, huge punching Scottish psycho Kenny Anderson and up until recently he was the only fighter to stop the teak-tough Charles Adamu, smashed Paul Smith in 2 rounds, the same Smith who took Ward 9 and Abraham the distance x 2 and dropped the iron-jawed Froch like he'd walked into the path of a wrecking ball. Was winning both Froch fights on my and most other people's cards at the time of the stoppages and was unlucky in the first one. Lost a razor-close one to Jack, a fight in which he could've definitely won had he fought a little smarter and I think would of if he'd had the Dark Lord Booth in the corner and personally I feel the Dark Lord Booth trained GG would've beaten Froch as well. I guess my favourite fighter has just hung them up, I'm only here on this website because I was looking for more info on Froch & Groves. He's had a very good career and I'm glad he's going out on his terms with his health intact. Good luck St George!
the Saint nickname never fitted, hes been too full of himself to be that, but good innings, nice one ol' Georgie a aprt from getting utterly wiped out by Froch of course twice. Chunky wuz his best win maybeez.
Denial is a son of a biatch And you sir are stuck well and truly in it Groves fell short every time he stepped up And as for he battered young Christopher bjs second best win and took that scalp way before Won his strap at the fourth time of asking Nothing special in groves pal andvthats using his own train of thought Got his title through the oath of least resistance and moaned whinged and looked for exceptions to the rules many times Hard being a groves fan I know But you can let it go now it's over man it's over
I must of missed him winning the ring belt Vacant wba from the weakest champ out there that's all I remember
