Prime for prime, who had faster hands between Shane and Ray?

Ray once said that Shane had faster hands than him, but chalk it up to him being modest.

I give Leonard the edge. Prime Mosley's hands were unbelievably fast though.

I'd say that Leonard was more fluid. His combinations were quicker, but Shane Mosley had unreal hand speed when it came to single shots, especially when you consider the power behind them, as opposed to a Meldrick Taylor who shoe shined everything he threw.

    Yeah, good points.

I think Shane does have the edge on Ray in single shot speed.

Combination wise though, Ray was faster/more fluid.

Yea, this is true. Though at the same time, Leonard was sometimes slappy with his best shots. He could turn over his punches, no doubt, but at his quickest also seemed to be at his least effective. I think he could put them together faster, but Mosley could land more meaningful punches with greater speed.

If you watch his fights with Dave Green or Andy Price, I'm sure you'll take that back. Ray could throw evil intention combos that still had blinding speed.

What you said about Leonard, you could apply more to Meldrick Taylor. Taylor was fast as all Hell, but he sometimes didn't fully commit to alot of his combos.

In many ways, I think Leonard had faster hands than Taylor.

I will watch those fights and keep those things in mind. Your points remind me of the Benitez fight; I guess when I think of "SRL being fast", my mind switches to clips of his olympic trials and the fight with Hagler and whatnot, which obviously aren't the best representations of his core style and abilities.

Leonard was faster than Shane, Taylor was in Leonards area of speed. But what do you think about Roy Jones jr. Was he faster than Leonard?

Leonard's speed is noticeably faster IMO.

Mosley had the faster hands but Leonard has faster footwork and more skill apparently.

Mosley had some of the fastest hands I've ever seen, but he moved up in weight and started lifting weights and he seemed to lose his speed.

People who know how Mosley looked early in his career know what I'm talking about.
