I like how the ref just wiped off the gloves and got out of the way instead of giving Powell 20 seconds to recover
My pick is Fireman Jim Flynn KO'ing Jack Dempsey in about 20 seconds. Dempsey KO'ing Fred Fulton also ranks up there.
Which of Marciano's opponents was it who said DeJohn was the hardest puncher he ever faced? Every time I ever hear about the guy it's mentioned that he had uncanny power.
The only guy that I can see that fought both Marciano and DeJohn was Jimmy Walls, who met Marciano in 1949 and DeJohn in 1955, among other top men. Walls could be counted on getting KO'd by the best. His record: 19 wins 42 losses 2 draws -- 23 KO defeats Some of his big KO losses: Rocky Marciano KO by 3 Roland LaStarza KO by 3 Cleveland Williams TKO by 1 Nino Valdes KO by 2 Pat McMurtry KO by 1 Mike DeJohn TKO by 3 Floyd Patterson TKO by 2 No offense to anyone, but this sort of quote, if Walls actually made it, doesn't cut much ice with me. It probably meant that DeJohn's manager was willing to slip him $20 or so under the table to puff up DeJohn's punching power to the press after his loss. (Although I wouldn't be surprised if the money changed hands before the bout) Marciano aside, I wouldn't consider DeJohn the top puncher on this list.
Ye, it was the shortest world title fight 20sec, but i think the record was broken recently by Zolani Tete 11sec KO in a world title fight.
Good call. I remember some considered Hatcher had a real chance of the upset. On the downside we had to sit through a lot more of the snoozefest that was Bruno/Gross in the rather wet bullring!
Honey was wide open here throwing wild hooks, that`s how Starling beat him, he didn`t move his head after punching.
Ali knocked out Liston in their second fight was probably one of them. However, none of them was so impressive for me since I prefer watching boxing more than a round.
