Your right!!! Cazaghe was truly the FASTEST fighter I have ever seen...(SARCASM)!!!

After he won his title in 1997...I was waiting for him (Calzaghe)to fight all of the Amazing fighters that were fighting at Super Middleweight (168lbs) and Light Heavyweight (175lbs) 1997 til his retirement:
Antonio Tarver
Montell Griffin
Clinton Woods
Glen Johnson
Chad Dawson

There was NO REAL reason nor EXCUSE after winning his title in '97 he dosen't fight Roy Jones nor Bernard Hopkins until 11 years later?????

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT!!!!

And I saw two "Past their Prime" fighters (Jones & Hopkins) who did not have the speed nor stamina they once had...Put Calzaghe Ass on the Canvas.

Calzaghe fans are always mentioning that deals could not get made to fight Jones or Hopkins "Back n' the Day" due to Money Issues....

But what about Tarver, Dawson, Griffin, Johnson, Woods....there were plenty of talented fighters he could have "TESTED HIMSELF" against.

But if you look at the list of fighters on his resume after winning his title...ITS F**KING HILARIOUS AND QUITE EMBARRASSING!!!!

This is a really great thread, notwithstanding the Calzaghe nuthuggers.

It would be great to have some kind of Boxing Combine, like the NFL Combine where all of the elite boxers can get together and find who's got the fastest handspeed, most power per weight class, etc, etc.

 

I got to the part where you went on about Jones and Hopkins... Jones admitted he didn't want to fight a fighter as dangerous as Calzaghe, instead choosing to fight bums and binmen, Hopkins saw his footage and instead asked for absurd money and backed down, then going on to fight blown up WW's.

Woods is a bum, tarver was a bum and not in his weight, Griffin was a has been and wouldn't fight Joe, Collins retired rather than fight Joe, Toney ate his way to HW, EuBank was the only one brave enough.

11 world champions on Joes resume.

Calzaghe is the most ducked man in the history of the sport.

Regarding pure speed, you have fighters in the low weight classes who punch that fast you have a hard time following them. The big names of the past could not compete with the fastest boxers of that kind in the last 10, 15 years. Relative, in their own weight class, it's hard to say if you keep objective. The highlights always show them with often clumsy, slow fighters which make them shine, while when in with a Mayweather Jr., they would be looking much less impressive. When Mayweather stepped it up against Hatton, he was FAST, while still having enough pop to knock Hatton out.
