Conteh never struck me as an exceptionally quick fighter - fast hands but nothing special. Left hook that put McCrory down was lightning fast - Curry was a great fighter.
That version of Gatti would make Pee-Wee Herman look good. Mayweather is good but he doesn't have natural hand speed(fast punches standing still), most of his speed comes from lateral movement. But he is fast no doubt. I would probably put him in my top 10, def not top 5.
Hector Camacho, and I can't stand him. I saw him fight Howard Davis, whom I thought was about as fast as one could be and Camacho was easily faster. Meldrick Taylor was very quick also, but I think Camacho faster than all.
I think his single shot speed was potentially very impressive.good reflexes and very quick feet for closing the gap, he could slip a jab and be on the inside ,or firing off a counter while previously just out of range in the blink of an eye. But as i said i don't think he fought particularly "fast" all the time, more so bouts of unpredictable explosiveness. The clusters of double and triple hooks he throws to regain the initiative after being floored by Drover in one of his early heavyweight bouts are as quick a sequence of proper powershots as i've seen from a light-heavy.
He is not in my top 10 personally, but since I hang around the General thread, people get the panties in a wad when you talk bad about him. So I try to be sympathetic.
Sometimes i get the impression Floyd could have been a little bit faster with his punches if he wasn't such a disciplined, reserved fighter and fought a little bit more reckless.
Even when he was offensive against Coralles, he wasn't the fastest I have ever seen, but I will still put him in there, somewhere.
Davis was well past his best and fastest by then. You had a 25yo Camacho vs a 31yo Davis. Both at their peak it would be extremely close, speed to burn between those two. Taylor's speed was used differently to those two. Real machine gun puncher with workrate.
