He didn`t look any quicker than Jackson when he fought him despite overpowering him eventually.

Ant, your strenuos defense of your position makes me think that on one side you want to know from us which fighters had or have the fastest hand speed on the other you are calculating the speed of the fighters' fists with some super-precise instruments. Lol

No I just feel the guys listed alongside G-man as the fastest were much faster.

If only Lennox Lewis and Laing had you and your youtube breakdowns at the ready from an early career stage Mark. Oh what might have been.

OK, but Ali was slower in the 70's more of foot than of hand...
Patterson was possibly faster just of hand than Ali.
But not pound for pound. Ali was 29 & a 1/2 lbs. heavier than Floyd for their second fight, & today, even in his heavier days he would rehydrate & fight at LHW. Ali possibly could make CW until later in his career.

    He was no Duran!!?
Well you don’t say Mark, that’s something we really need to hold against him.
I was replying to someone who described Laing as a bum which he certainly wasn’t.
He was a very talented but flawed fighter, he obviously didn’t beat a prime and overly motivated version of Duran, but beating any version of Duran is no mean feat.

Sorry, I meant Fury hesitasted with leads v Wilder because he was nervous about being countered, but threw more leads than Laing did v Duran, both used movement to confuse their foes but Fury is far better than Laing was at doing this stuff.

If Mark took up boxing, with his detailed knowledge, he would be p4p no.1

No retreating in straight lines for him, no way.
    No looking awful.
    Faster than RJJ.
    No missing punches.
No staying on the centre line.
    No being easier to hit.
    Just imagine his footwork......

    Have I missed anything?

When I sparred when I was 13 I just ran around the ring, the only guy I didn`t look awful against got upset that I was hitting him too hard, when I punched the pads I got my combo`s wrong because the trainer said I was too fast, I didn`t miss that wimpy guy he just stood there like a plum, but I didn`t thow much against the other guys, I was too scared. I was completely easy to hit, my footwork was great, but only on the running track where I won a sprint on sports day.

If Tubbs is included, I'm throwing in Greg Page.

Thomas Hearns with his jab. Roy Jones Jr his natural punching speed. Floyd his counters. Ali early on.
