All good names, but I will just add that the fastest in an absolute sense could not be a MW or beyond. As fast as say Jones was, you really think that many fighters who were way smaller & could not hit that hard-when you go down to 140, 120, even 105 lbs at minimum weight... Were not faster? Maybe not lb. for lb., but in an Absolute sense. Less mass to move + shorter limbs means, every thing else being equal, smaller = faster. Just like no fighter around MW could ever hit as hard as the biggest HW & SHW sluggers. This is just basic physics. Such as check out the powerlifting or weight lifting would records. Even with the addition of steroids-which tends to add absolute mass... You need a FORMULA to compare the pound for pound power of similarly lean champions at weight classes that vary much in size. The best lifter who is a large man will never lift more than the best small man-pound for pound. Just like the best small man will never lift more in an absolute sense than the top guys who are much larger. You would expect the same thing applies to other measures of explosive & total power.
"It's not a speed analogous to a footrace. Because here jumping the gun is most of the art. " Are you by any chance a professional writer? I wouldn't expect you to confirm if you were, and I'm just wondering out loud (in text).
