From what I've seen in my years watching boxing as well as old boxing clips i would have to say prime Tyson., I personally think his hands were faster than "Ali"'s.....Yes! the Great Ali even.

I'm going to have to go with Roy Jones Jr., though this doesn't exactly look like you were looking to start a list of other's opinions.

    Floyd Patterson
    Muhammad Ali
    Mike Tyson

Roy Jones Jr is another good pick - he was extremely fast for a "HW" against John Ruiz.

Ali or tyson. Ali from range and tyson closer up.

    Floyd Patterson.

    Tyson agrees, incidently.

I think Ali's fastest punches would register the highest speed radar gun speed. My supposition is that Patterson was more quick than fast, and Cooper was confusing speed with quickness when he claimed Floyd had the faster hands. Louis's punches were also very short, the key reason for his accuracy. The opinions of any eyewitnesses to Ali's peak who also watched Tyson should not be discounted.

Fleischer made it clear in 1969 that Ali was the fastest heavyweight he ever saw, and Muhammad's handspeed was tested as superior to SRR's straight up. Although the black and white footage quality is not good, the combination Ali knocked out Brian London with is the most impressive looking display of his handspeed I've seen on screen. Did any live witnesses to that demonstration who also sat ringside for a Tyson fight rate Ali's speed as less?

Yeah i almost forgot about him, yeah he goes down as probably having a pair of the fastest hands period, but he only had one fight @ hvyweight, and if i didn't want others opinions i wouldn't have started a thread, I'm curious to see others opinions, thats why i'm on the site

Alis hands were the fastest, followed by Patterson and then Tyson. Holmes didn't have top 5 ever handspeed, im surprised by the number of times he's been mentioned.

Not really his raw handspeed, but his combination punching, like his 1-2 was really fast.

Leroy Jones or Tony Tubbs... Imagine how much faster they could of been if they also bothered to get in shape.;)

No, a case can be made that Corbett, Jack Johnson, Dempsey, Tunney, Sharkey and Louis were also all faster than Holmes. Frazier also demonstrated excellent speed in the FOTC. Greg Page was also very fast (if not necessarily quick). Witherspoon looked to be slightly faster than Holmes in their meeting. But Larry was usually fast enough when it counted. (Even against Beanfart, he showed superb handspeed.)

    100% true

I would say Ali could throw a faster variety of punch than tyson, joe louis & floyd pat were very fast also.

All in all, Ali was the fastest hwt.

Jones did say during the pre-fight interview before his shot at Holmes that he was quicker and faster when he got his weight down to 237, but also weaker. (Some were comparing Jones to Buster Mathis.) Tubbs is an excellent shout.
