I think the old timers fought silly amounts of rounds...why? Were they much fitter than todays fighters? Or was it at a much slower pace? See thats the point...you CAN go 12 rounds even if your relatively out of shape or far from your peak condition...if you can keep the fight slow and plodding.
This content is protected Fat Witherspoon was awesome the night he was robbed against Mercer in '96. I had it 7-3 for Spoon.
Tony Tubbs and Buster Mathis Sr were both overweight but both good technicians with reasonable handspeed and stamina.
its obvious that only boxing division with fat fighters would be HW because it doesnt have an upper limit for weight. If a cruiser is fat, he is HW if LHW is fat he becomes CW etc.Logic statementThey are fat because they can be.Of course it wont bring them succes but divison principles doesnt prohibit to be fat
Before MQ rules, rounds weren't counted by time. Pushing, tripping, grappling, etc were legal. Anytime someone went down, a round was called. That's why fights could last 80 rounds. Once fights went to 15 rounds, they were the similar workrate as today. To my point, go try to last 12 rounds with someone who is actively trying to knock you out. Its tough and not something you can do if you are out of shape. I see it all the time in my gym. College kids, military personnel, all in descent shape, who get in the ring and are sucking wind in the second round and can't spar 3 rounds straight. They all say the same thing "I can't believe how tired I am!" or "That is so much harder than it looks!" :yep
