Theres really only a handful of promoters in the world that can pull off an event of this magnitude.

TMT is not one of them.

Don't be idiots guys, the arena is going to sell out and every hotel on the strip is going to be booked. :patsch

If anything this is good because prices might come down and more tickets may become available to the general public

You are talking about what *should* happen vs what seems to be happening. As noted by some, no details/availability on tix or even closed circuit yet and its already within the 2 week airfare window.

Sure, even at the last minute if they have to I am sure they will be able to find someone to take tickets at some price and not look bad on TV (if they have the presence of mind to do so) but this promotion is already so full of major goofs. Its pretty amusing really.

They can but do you really think people sitting ring side for this fight or even floor level are boxing fans?

Some may be but having ring seats is more about the prestige of being there. Its more of a social event rather than a boxing match.

I don't know if it will break pay-per-view records.

Six or seven of us (friends/family) are getting together to play poker, drink and watch the fight. Normally several of us would just order the fight ourselves. But the price was pretty high, so we decided to get together. In the end, we'll probably end up paying more (because of the poker), but it's more of a party. Everything's not just focused on the fight itself.

If the fight was $70, I don't know if we'd do that. Since it's a $100, we are.

So it works out okay for us, but I wonder how many MORE PPVs they would've sold if the fight was $65 or $75 instead of $100?

I know, between the three of us who normally buy ppvs, they'd have made $225 off three of us (at $75 a piece) instead of $100 off the three of us at that higher rate.

And the ticket situation is very odd. These guys (TMT) haven't exactly promoted anything before, have they?

They went on and on about "this fight sells itself" ... but as we get closer, that excuse is beginning to sound more like they didn't know "how" to do all this promotional stuff (they usually just show up) so they didn't even bother trying.

At some point, I think they'll call Bob Arum in to help make sure the event actually takes place.

But I think they really messed up with the people traveling. The fighters will get tons of tickets to distribute/sell as part of their deals, but those will be harder to sell because those people have to stay somewhere.

People don't usually book flights and reserve rooms for events they don't have ticket to.

They can give them away to friends and family, but it will be pretty obvious if everyone in the crowd is a Mayweather (they all kind of have variations of the same face, so it'll be obvious )

There have been quite a few fights in boxing history that were supposed to be big ... and then the promoters screwed around to the last minute ... and far fewer people than expected showed up. And they did have to dump tickets just to fill the stands.

Leonard Ellerbe seems to be slightly out of his league here.

The fight is in 11 days. :hi:

I know a lot of people that aren't excited for the fight anymore. The prices are ridiculous, I don't care if Jesus and Thor are fighting, that's too high!!

Well then that is the broker's problem. I already know where I'll be watching the fight May 2.

The tickets are already sold to the brokers. It is the brokers that will have to eat the cost at this point.

I've never encountered "spewn" as past tense for spew before. :think

Got me to Google it - apparently not a valid form in a traditionalist, prescriptivist sense (as Oxford, Merriam-Webster and Cambridge all not only prefer "spewed" but outright exclude "spewn" as an alternative) but there is enough usage across the internet (spanning personal blogs to actual journalistic outlets) to, for a proponent of descriptivism anyway, consider it normative enough for casual use, if not fully syncretized with mainstream academia.

That's what I meant, price drop for end-users.
