To be fair to Ward, his fight with Dawson directly conflicted with the Oakland A's(a Major League Baseball team based in Oakland) were playing at the same time ,when they were in the middle of the playoff hunt. There were 23K people watching that just across the parking lot. The San Francisco Giants(another MLB team) who play just across the bridge had 43K people on the same night.

The Bay Area has a huge fan base. Ward just can't directly compete with these teams who are establishments. He needs Oakland to be his town for a night to draw 10-15K+ people.
