My all-time favorite is Don Dunphy. When they show replays of the old "Fight of the Week" from the 1960's , I find his commentary and voice to be so much more relaxing and enjoyable as compared to others that followed down through the years like Howard Cosell etc. Who is your choice for favorite ringside commentator?
Larry Merchant. I don't always agree with him. He is not the best at technical analysis either. I have just been hearing his voice since before I was a teenager, and fights just aren't the same without him.
the guy in the tyson-douglas fight who says "we have a new heavyweight champion, we have a new heavyweight champion, it's all over". i dont know the name.
I never liked Dunphy. He always sounded bewildered in his broadcasts, and coming from a radio background, never seemed to understand the transition when he went to TV. "And Frazier throws a left hook!"...........great, thanks, that was real helpful Don. Ryan and Clancy were by far the best.
Hated Clancy, so much bias. I really like Al Bernstein because he is, well, likeable and knowledgeable. For expert analysis, I love Manny Steward and like Teddy Atlas.
My dream team would be Bernstein, Merchant and Roy Jones jr. Roy was a bit of a mumbler, but he was very insightful and a better alternative to any other boxer who has given commentary a go.
Favorites, Don Dunphy, Bob Sheridan, and, I cant this of his name right now, but the guy who did HBO boxing in the mid-80s.
From a pure boxing fan standpoint, Dunphy, whose moderation, knowledgeable comments and decency make me feel I'm in the ballpark bleachers enjoying a hot dog and Coke on a sun-drench afternoon. For a most unique sense of bombast, drama and history in the making, Cosell.
