Cosell was awefully biased and could put an ADHD to sleep with that boring, monotonous voice of his. To top it off, he speaks in a language that is normally used in letters. I like Merchant. He's got a great sense of humor, is not afraid to ask any question and can improvise well.
Merchant for sure. Crazy old drunk vibe but often razor-sharp in his observations. Foreman and Jones Jr both had faults, but added an awful lot. Jones Jr was stronger on the technical side, Foreman on the general observations and jokes. I also quite liked Scott LeDoux, y'know...
And I thought I was the only one! LeDoux does the lower-end spectrum of boxing very well, mainly because he was a club-fighter himself and understands that side of the sport better than a Jones or a Foreman could. I actually prefer LeDoux to Atlas on ESPN: less technically sharp, sure, but far more realistic and savvy.
Sorry , i dont like Merchant , dont think he knows boxing , and he certanly has no respect whatsoever . In Barerra - Morales 2 , he said so far we have waited for nothin . No respect for 2 of the greatest warriors of the era. And he says things that make you think - i could analyse better than you. Buddy McGirt is not a commentator , but his analysing of fighters in the contender when he was doing a team-talk is brilliant imo
Dont like Merchant either. The worse is his bad jokes. He try to make some joke or something, and it either ends up disrespect one or both of the fighters, or just falls flat.
I`ve always been a big fan of Keith Jackson, he called many a good bout and was one of the few commentators who knew when to be quiet and let the action taking place in the ring speak for itself.
