In my lifetime? 1982. From the time I've been a boxing fan? Maybe 1995. A lot of decent fights that year and a lot of promise of good ones to come too.
2005 was a good one. There was a bar down the street from the house that my wife and I would go to that would have all the HBO/Showtime cards. Corrolas vs Castillo was fun as hell to watch in that atmosphere. I remember being pretty much the only guy in the bar that thought Winky would beat Tito and I won a **** ton of money on that fight. Hatton vs Tzyu was another good fight. It was mostly just a fun time since it was before we had kids and we had time to go out. Nowadays my old ass falls asleep half the time watching the fights. LOL!
1992. The year I bought every issue of KO, Boxing 92, and the Ring magazine. No internet, just good old articles reporting on the fights. And the British fighters were really lighting up the super middleweight class. Great year for me! Mostly due to the memories, and my age at the time.
Although I was fortunate in that I started watching and following Boxing in 1973 when I was 5-6, from a purely personal point of view it would be 1985. Kostas Petrou and Tony Willis who were with the Lynch Brothers' stable that trained at the Birmingham City ABC Gym where I boxed both won British Titles at Welter and Lightweight. I was at the fights and got to see and hold both their Lonsdale belts . Pat Cowdell, also with Paddy and Tommy Lynch won the European Title, Another big fight I was lucky enough to be at. Barry McGuigan's victory over Eusebio Pedroza was the most watched broadcast of the year with the exception of Live Aid, nearly 18 million tuned in. There were about 20 of my mates at my Dad's house, some of whom didn't leave until broad daylight on the Sunday !
