Commentators curse: When the commentator says something, which is immediately counter-acted either by The boxer This content is protected proving the commentator wrong (e.g: Commentator: "[insert fighter] has never really had great head movement, could be a problem for them in this fight. Boxer: *Immediately slips every shot of a combo*) The boxer This content is protected proving the commentator wrong (e.g: Commentator: "[insert fighter] has a great chin, never been dropped in his career! Boxer: *immediately gets dropped*) That's an immediate cursing, where it happens right after or a few moments after the commentator says it. Delayed cursing happens rounds after the commentator says it (two different fights don't count) So, what is your favorite example of this phenomenon? Mine is in Ali-Frazier 2, in round 1 Howard Cosell said "if there's any punch left in Ali, it's in his left hook. The right is suspect after having been damaged...etc" and in round 2 Muhammad Ali staggers and backs up Frazier with a right hand! Take a watch: This content is protected (I've timestamped when round 1 starts, won't timestamp either event since you only have to watch two rounds of boxing [great rounds too] to see it.) Please supply a video with your post.
Jim Lampley saying "Kirk Johnson says he cannot knock Maskaev out." Johnson knocks him through the ropes in the 4th
This content is protected " This is really one of the saddest kinds of fights in boxing . Mickey Ward is 31 years old. He's here because he needs the money. He's taking a beating. He's getting humiliated." ….. Larry Merchant Mickey Ward KO Alfonso Sanchez Round 7 , liver shot Watch him set up it with a real quick hook to the head that brings up Sanchez's elbow, and then hooks to the liver Just a thing of beauty
Chris Maddox, when Joshua floored Ruiz: "Anthony Joshua is a composed and ferocious finisher. Watch this." Then Ruiz floors Joshua. "Watch this." What a great line. This content is protected
Not sure if it technically counts but Pacquiao dropping Algieri hard has to be up there. Impeccable timing This content is protected
Howard Cosell was a very partial announcer, so was Jim Lampley, they had their favorites. I remember at the Sugar Ray Leonard vs Daniel Gonzalez fight on March 24 1979, the boxing fans in attendance were purposely spilling beer on Howard, as they walked by. He said that the fans were rude.
I remember Wlad fighting somebody and Lennox Lewis was commentating he wouldn’t shut up about wlad’s right hand and as he mentioned it again Wlad absolutely destroyed his opponent with 4 left hooks then Lennox tried to style it out by saying “yea that’s the left hand I was just talking about”
I want to see footage of Ali's shuffle after dropping Foreman, I don't think they have one of that angle though
I don't have a problem with him, he's one of the better boxing commentators in my opinion. The worst commentators I've ever heard were the ones doing the Canelo VS GGG 1 fight. Constantly calling things wrong, saying Canelo was getting hurt among the ropes when he was clearly slipping, disagreeing and contradicting eachother constantly, and sounding like Max Kellerman. Max Kellerman is the worst.
