Hmm. Used plenty of gloves with extra padding on the knuckles and some with barely any. Yes, one can feel the difference, but it is nothing drastic.
But the "making a fist" part got my curiosity. Never wore any gloves like that.

Well you have to consider how good of a fighter Erik Morales actually was to understand why he's semi effective even as a shot fighter. He's known as an ATG and a crowd pleaser, who delivers exciting fights. But sometimes it gets lost at how devastatingly great he was at boxing. This was a man who was very, very, very good at this ****. A diminished Morales could still compete with some world class fighters. In his youth he would have toyed with them. Think about it. He went 48-2 in his prime. With victories over Barrera and Pacquiao. His only two losses to MAB.

Some brands are molded extra stiff, yeah. Over time you can "break them in", sort of like a baseball mitt, but I think some commissions in the pros require that brand new gloves be used for competition.

 

Tho i have never heard of a glove that wont let you make a proper fist.
And i have a pair of 10s that have extra padding on the front, yet they feel more padded than a pair of 16s that i have. (I feel the weight difference but i feel the punch more with 16s)
One pair of 10oz feels like a 10 should and i have a pair of 10oz Muay Thai gloves that feel like 8oz or smaller.
In the amateurs we used a select number of brand new gloves every day. My coach picked me the gloves that one guy just scored a KO with
