It’s more about what wasn’t said and then what was said later.

13th round in The Thrilla in Manila.

Shortly after Dunphy announced that there was 2 minutes left to go in the round, Ali launched a vicious barrage at Joe, commencing with that famous right cross that sent Joe’s mouth piece flying and landing in ….how far was it again…the 69th row?

Anyway, Dunphy said nothing during the punching sequence except for noting that Ali was scoring heavily after 6-7 power punches had been landed.

Fair enough. No need to describe the bleeding obvious - let the viewer see and enjoy for themselves. Good stuff.

However, at the end of the round, old Don shared a post round analysis with Ken Norton.

Don observed “Joe has lost his mouthpiece again…I didn’t see it come out”.

Was Don the only one who didn’t see Joe’s mouth piece fly out? Lol.

In the other round when Joe lost his mouthpiece (can’t recall which round), which could be clearly seen when it happened, I think Don also noted that Joe’s gum shield was missing after the fact, adding he didn’t see when Joe had lost it.

Anyway, it always struck me as funny Don missing those moments. Maybe his seating was coincidentally less than ideal for viewing at those very moments.

Or, maybe old Don had a few micro naps during the course of the bout.

Speaking of Ferdie Pacheco's Gaffes, I recall recently watching the John Tate - Trevor Berbick fight. During the fight Ferdie just couldn't get Berbick's name down while commentating. At various times I heard him refer to him as 'Trevor Howard' and 'Trevor Bobick'.
