Who are they and why? I always liked Al Bernstein. Great delivery, wasn't overly emotional, great knowledge of the sport and was always on point.
Did not always agree with his views, and there were more polished performers, but I always respected his love of the sport. Anyone who gave out his personal address to use for competitions etc., clearly was, like me, a boxing nerd!
Jim Watt was a terrific color man, one of the few guys who could accurately gauge where a fight was going and what the corners would try to do going forward. Holdsworth always comes across as a guy who's 95% opinion and outspokenness. Being blunt and harsh doesn't necessarily mean that you're being insightful (which could just as easily apply to this sentence that I'm writing), and it often makes for a listen that sounds more like combative talk radio than a dramatic boxing broadcast.
Bernstein, Clancy ND Ryan, also Alex Wallau and Dan Dierdorf. They were terrific as a team. The only one I can't stand to listen to is Dunphy. We was frankly terrible.
@salsanchezfan Wallau and Dierdorf did indeed make a good team. Tim Ryan and Gil Clancy were absolutely great together. I also love Al Bernstein. I'm not a fan of Jim Lampley. At all. Merchant tended to annoy me, and never came up with anything interesting to say, in my opinion. Never took to 'colonel' Bob Sheridan either. On the British side, I like Jim Watt.
Dierdorf: "So and so weighed in yesterday at 130, and they say he's coming in the ring today at about 140. It's hard to gain 10 pounds in a day!" Wallau: "Watch ne."
