I was watching Loughran-Boucher the other day there and it was a proper beauty and it got me thinking about all the back-in-the-day type commonwealth title fights that used to be on TV. There were some great old scraps, stuff like Kaylor-Gumbs, Williams-Potter and just the other month there we had Tyson-Chisora on the tv and all. Any special memories/particular shouts?
Chris Clarke and Clyde Gray had a couple of wars with the Commenwealth 147lb title at stake. They're pretty legendary in my neck of the woods (Nova Scotia)
Does it have to be only the Commonwealth belt on the line? If not, Conteh v Finnegan I :yep A more recent one was Dominic Vea v Oscar Siale for the vacant Crusierweight belt. Terrific bloody battle between 2 Aussies.
Watson v Benn as well! Superb performance.....it's such a shame how much the Commonwealth belt has been devalued now. Probably 70% of Commonwealth title fights now are between UK fighters and no-hoper Africans.
Charkey Ramon-Pat Dwyer for the vacant Light middle title back in the early 70's on TV Ringside. Ramon rose from a big knockdown in the 6th I think to score a stoppage in round 8. It showed the toughness and will to win of this talented Aussie who perhaps could've made an impact at a world level had his career not been cut short by injury.
Nice upset win by Loughren.Boucher was a solid champ at the time.Perhaps he took the fight to lightly.
