In a decent and competitive age for domestic boxing over the past 15 years we’ve been lucky enough to see great battles up and down the country. Who are your favourite British boxers of the past 15 years. Remember this doesn’t necessarily have to be the best in terms of record and belts etc, but those who you have enjoyed watching the most

    Here are mine

    1) Jawaid Khaliq. after beating Lee Murtagh to win the WBF Inter-Continental Light Middleweight Title, Khaliq defended his IBO welterweight title 8 times and lit up the Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre with his slick style and one sided points decisions. A hand injury forced his into retirement.

    2) Michael Ayers. Shaka was British and world lightweight champion with a good dig. Was the first person to knock out Colin Dunne but lost his final 2 fights when trying to step up to light welterweight

    3) Herbie Hide. interesting and enigmatic fighter who blew all away in his earlier career and looked a potential world beater. Fulfilled that promise by knocking out American performers in Michael Bentt and Tony Tucker but a combination of being in the ring with men who were to big for him (Klitschko and Bowe) along with the fact he had a suspect chin, his heavyweight career fizzled out. Currently unbeaten as a cruiser

    4) Ian Napa. Another promising fighter who looked destined for the top when beating Nicky Booth. With little opportunities at flyweight Napa stepped up to Bantamweight with success revenging his earlier defeat to Jason Booth. World class in terms of style and technique but lack a dig to be world champion.

    Ian Napa...

A delight to watch in the ring. I was there the night he won the European title against Ballone and the whole place was willing him on. Fantastic memory.

1)Jason Booth Just a pleasure to watch...great character and his skill set is one of the best compared to most domestic fighters over last 12 years. He has fought back from a bad assault and addiction to be back at top of domestic mountain.
2)Michael 'Shaka' Ayers He is a local lad and a man that oozed class and had the heart of a lion. He had a bit about him and would go to war and was a likable character. Gotta get back watching his old fights. The Rigby First Fight will live long in my memory for his grand gesture. He was what is good about British Boxing.
3)Billy Schwer Good old Billy. The shorts were awful but what a great domestic boxer. Could box and scrap and he was hard as nails. A great role model and in his later days he had some great fights. No shame in losing to a prime Stevie Johnston. Picked his life back up glad to say as well and back on right path.
4)Colin 'Dynamo' Dunne A once horse jockey to domestic boxing legend. I remember his fights from Emmanuel Clottey to Billy Schwer. Work rate that made Margarito look a slob. Blood and Guts Warrior who part of that great lightweight era domestically.

Billy Schwer! good one, almost forgot about him. I think he's doing pretty well outside of boxing now as a motivational speaker, good on him!
