Collectively, they're an interesting look at what it's like to view the world in ForemanVision. I wouldn't be surprised if some of those comments showed up in Foreman's own internal monologue during fights. "I'm just one punch away from winning this. I should jab him in the chest. That always saps their energy. I've got a great jab. My boxing isn't working; time to fight him. Better stand up between rounds so he knows I'm not tired. I'm one punch away from winning this..." And of course, it was true for him, too.
Unfortunately, between Biden's embarrassing gaffes and Trump's stunning ignorance and profound idiocy, it's inevitable that a thread on weird quotes would lead to political references...
Foreman during the Bowe vs Golota riot. "Don't do it... don't do it....don't do it. You don't stop it. Go back where you're seated. DON'T DO IT SON, DON'T DO THAT!"
Yep I do. Not that it is a massive big deal, but every provocative comment that might inspire conflict is a step in the direction of conflict & ill will. For example I care that you were big enough to acknowledge what I was saying, rather than angry or ego-based defensiveness that tend to be more common if someone is called on something like that. Others will notice & appreciate it too.
Foreman during the Holyfield-Bowe 1 fight. Describing how vicious this slugfest was "you got to have a reason to fight like that. Like 9 children or something."
Yeah, that was class from Big George. Lampley thanked Foreman on air for basically protecting him and Larry Merchant from an ass-whipping from a baying mob.
I read years ago that during the filming of CHAMPIONS FOREVER Joe Frazier had become a bit feisty after a few drinks and was trying to get to Ali. Big George saw what was developing and took it upon himself to make sure that he was always positioned between Joe and Ali to prevent anything untoward occurring. Classy guy.
Funny, so we have them both to thank for averting Ali-Frazier IIII. It wouldn’t have been pretty. Obviously Joe was taking the title of the doco a bit too literally. LOL.
Some of George’s comments are actually great insight into how George thought as a fighter. He could be losing every minute and he was thinking ‘I’m one punch from turning this around,’ which in his case was true. Doesn’t translate to what other guys could generally do, but I do think we’re getting a glimpse inside his thought process as he was fighting.
