What are your favourite decades in boxing starting from 1960 onwards? I say 1960 onwards as i want to do a seperate thread later on older boxing from 1890's to 1950's and i feel that its a bit easier to break things up that way. So, for example, the 60's would be from 1960-69 etc. Which decades do you rank the highest based on the quality of the fighters, the quality of fights that happened, the overall depth of competition , rules which you prefer (15 rounds vs 12) etc. Mine: 1. 80's 2. 70's 3. 90's 4. 60's 5. 2010's 6. 2000's 2020's is hard but i think it will end up as being in the top 3 if the match ups that are being made keep being made.
Hmmm.....good thread. If we're talking about the heavies then it's either the 70s or 90s, two fantastic decades for the big men. However overall my favourite decade is the 80s.We had the magnificent Four Kings of Hagler,Hearns,Duran and Leonard.Sugar Ray Leonard being a serious rival to his great namesake,Sugar Ray Robinson for being the best PFP fighter in history. There were other excellent fighters operating during the 80s,guys like Michael Nunn and Iran Barkley. By the way,the 80s heavyweight scene wasn't that shabby. For raw talent the 80s heavyweights probably topped their counterparts in the 70s and 90s,and there were some very decent heavyweight fights.
