I have yet to have a fight, but ive training off and on over the past 2 years, I have sparred about 10-15 times or so but the dilemma for me has always been i dont want to break my nose! Boxing is something i have found hard to shake off, i love to watch it, i enjoy the training, the sparring is tough but i have always enjoyed for the most part. I have a sharp biggish nose and i have contemplated getting a headguard with the bar across it for sparring but of course that has its disadvantages aswell. Pure and simple if your a person who worries about this then you shouldnt box?
lol I'm Polish and got a big nose. but I have never been hit clean in the nose yet! and I've been training for 11 months. I do now have a headguard with a face bar, but most of my sparring has been done with out a face bar. So don't worrier about your nose being broken, focus on the other guys nose and break his first!
Your nose is tougher than you think :thumbsup I've had a few bloody noses and thats when I've been tagged right on my nose. It'll bleed loads at first but as you spar more your nose toughens up. Maybe in an actually fight its more of a risk but we go pretty hard in my gym.
Had my nose broke in my last fight. If its something you really dont want to happen then I wouldn't suggest fighting. You are trying to hurt your opponent, and he is trying to hurt you, chances are one of you is gonna get hurt. If you do decide to fight, concentrate on training defense. That is my big problem, my defense sucks, and i kind of switched off after I'd let my punches go in my last fight (not fit enough, and been working stupid hours the few weeks before so wasnt on the ball)
my nose is **** after three months of training. cant breath through one of my nostrils and my nose has become crooked. Its all good though, i have been told the doctors can fix it. Why do you fear getting your nose broke?
takes a bit to break your nose...just spar light with people and really work on your defense when u spar...just work your jab and keep a tight guard. I feel the same in regards to a bust nose but at the end of the day what is bigger...your love for sparring or fear of nose break - which ever is bigger thats your answer pal. My advice is there is no worries in sparring so long as you keep your defense solid, get a good head guard such as a Mexican head guard as this gives some decent nose cover without impairing vision and keep your sparring partners familiar i.e. dont get in with someone who wants to take your head off until your confident in your defense. You have to accept though with boxing, a bust nose is a risk...but then again going to a bar and having a fight can give the same outcome. If anything in the ring you're aware that someone is going to punch and you can defend accordingly.
Best cure for this is to get your nose broke, its not that big a deal honestly. If your a person who worries about this you definitely need to keep boxing to conquer the fear.
You're too soft for this sport ***** boy. Nose? A broken nose is no big deal. Come talk to me when you get your eye socket broken you *****.
I honestly believe that this is a natural fear for most people but I agree that this issue must be dealt with before one can pursue boxing full-time. Much like eye/head/shoulder/neck injuries in rugby, there are certain sport-specific injury risks that one must consider before pursuing a sport/activity competitively.
Two years of training and no fight, only sparred 15 times during those two years. And yet you are afraid to break your nose, from the sound of it you are just a ***** quit the sport and dont try it you dont have the heart, mental toughness or cojones for it. :hat
Have had my nose broken 3 times from street fights as a kid............... dont recall it actually hurting at the time. Truth be told, If it were to happen again it would probably improve it! ha ha
