hmm, i have two comments about about the information about kostya tszyu and arnold.

i know a man named bob jackowitz, who was a successful professional body builder in his day. he knew arnold personaly and said that arnold was "not strong" but it was in a respectful context and surely not in comparison to average guys like me. im sure arnold was very strong to the average man, but maybe not to a powerlifter. it was his virtually perfect body symetry that made him one of the greatest bodybuilders in history. 540lbs may not be alot to a power lifter but i could see it being arnolds max and by all means that is alot of weight. im also sure if arnold focused soley on bench pressing and maxing then it would be much higher. in relation to this comment his said this guy named franco columbo was very strong and could have been a powerlifter.

as for kostya tszyu benching 300lbs, if thats what he said then i believe him... why not being a athlete is his job? there where guys in my highschool (many years ago) that where benching 300lbs and they where about 155-175lbs which im sure is tszyu's walking weight and the weight he would be at if he benched 300lbs. i look at tszyus body and he has a powerful frame not to mention how he manhandles opponents in the ring.

as for the topic of the thread,

i heard mike tyson possess enought punching power to break a bulls neck with his punch (no hard evidence of course)

Prof. Billy Miller is another with great feats of strength... a power lift record was said to be in the newspaper when Miller was in his 40's.. Miller took the same listed weights, and duplicated the action and bettered record with his suit and tie on.

Regarding Body Builders.. they are show ponies with precisely no athletic ability. Juice heads with inflated appearences.

Ask one to co-ordinate a barrow full of bricks over a dirt track or through mud.... they'll tip it over.

Lol... nah, its just the truth mate. Been on the work sites with a few 'pretty boys' who rub sun screen on each others 'mucled bodies' over the years. Wankers!!

The muscle mass in due to islolating muscle groups and targeting growth from heavy lifts..

The ability for these clowns to manipulate weights is NIL..

    Really????

Name one profoundly brilliant body builder, with a physique to match world class athletes.

A body builder be just that... a show pony.

Terry probably did both -many reps and at times heavy.

    This is interesting: http://www.oldtimestrongman.com/blog/2009/03/neck-training-with-sonny-liston.html

First of all, if you are talking pure development, a top bodybuilder's physique exceeds that of a top athlete's.

But I think, the question is really whether all top bodybuilder's are show ponies and nothing else. You have asked me to name one name. Well, just off the cuff, I will give you a few.

    1. John C. Grimek: Considered to be one of the greatest bodybuilders ever. Never defeated in a bodybuilding contest. Represented the USA in Weightlifting in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Could do full splits, full back flips, handstands and the very difficult (particularly for someone with a heavy build) flag.

    2. Bill Pearl: Again one of the all time greats. Could do strongman stunts and had very respectable lifts.

    3. Chuck Sipes: Fantastic build. Again put on a great strongman act and could Bench Press in excess of 500 lbs in the late sixties which would be very near the then world record. Also was a mountaineer.

    4. Sergio Oliva: Nicknamed the "Myth" because of his out of this world build and proportions. Arnold's most celebrated rival. Was a member of the Cuban Olympic Weightlifting team.

    5. Franco Columbu: Mentioned in the posts here. Top build + top powerlifting ability. Was also a very good boxer.

    6. Lou Ferrigno: Another top bodybuilder. Played the Hulk in the TV series. Did quite well in a "superstar competition" comprising various sports performances against top stars drawn from other sports.

This has been my observation also.

I am 5' 5'' and look built but I am not a body builder.

When the juice heads who are 6'' taller than me are in the gym and have finished lifting I somtimes stick an extra weight on each end of the barbell and wwatch their looks of dismay when I lift it.

For those of you that don't believe Rahman can bench 520 lbs. His former conditioning coach posts on here and verified it. He hates Rahman's guts because Rahman didn't pay him, so he has no reason to lie on Rahman's behalf.

I read someplace once where james scott ( a former light-heavyweight contender from the late 70's- early 80's) used to routinely do over 1000 push-ups a day.
