I remember reading he did 500 pushups & 1000 situps. Rubin Carter claims to have done up to 5000 pushups a day.
Speaking of bodyweight exercises. I saw a piece where Cosell interviewed Lyle and he said he did 500 or a 1000 push ups a day in prison. I forget which. Also 500 or a 1000 (Can't remember damn it) sit ups a day for Jeff Lacy.
idiots like these **** me off. bodybuilding is a completely different sport with a completely different objective to boxing, powerlifting, etc. can't your tiny brain grasp that? ok, so the bodybuilder tips the bricks over, so ****ing what? i bet a world class boxer will be hospitalised if he tries to keep up with a bodybuilder doing a bodybuilding workout.
Rahman also probably concentrated more on explosive / power movements than Arnold did, as well. Arnold trained heavy on occasion, but mostly he trained with weight that allowed 10-12 reps with strict form. Key difference.
A lot of people I know (and also on these forums) like both. If not bodybuilding, then powerlifting or strongman events. Former pro bodybuilder Eddie Robinson (who was as strong as an ox too) was an amateur boxer, as was fellow former pro Mike Matarazzo. Dorian Yates has sponsored the odd boxing event and guys like Shawn Ray know a fair bit about the fight game. Mariusz Pudionowski (sp?) the world's strongest man,was also reportedly a former amateur boxer, so it seems that a lot of people do like both sports.
Gene Paul Anderson was known as the strongest man in the world he tried boxing and got the **** punched out of him, different ball game.
A boxer can still push a wheel barrow... even a flyweight. I suggest only one thing from my arguement, Bodybuilders are show ponies with no physical ability outside of the mirror they admire themselves in. Take a look in the mirror dickhead... you might **** yourself off.
I have a strong suspicion that Billy Costello and Kevin Rooney could both squat, clean and jerk, and bench more than Arguello. It doesn't mean much in a boxing ring. Interesting discussion though.
Oh for sure. The examples I gave were of guys who boxed first and then tried their hand (and became successful) at the iron game.
cheers for clearing it up and for the link Janitor i always imagined you as a real old man but i have to think again way to shatter my world
Yeah, that was cool. I enjoyed all of the footage of his training after his comeback, but can't find it anywhere. I remember the jeep thing, and then the wood chopping and heavybag stuff. And watching him curl was fookin amazing!! Dude could curl so freakin much. His arms were the biggest I have ever seen.
