Isn't Cotto's fight also for a vacant title?

Yes -- it is. To me these fights are more like co-features than main event and preliminary. Cotto is fighting on the east coast; Pav in the midwest. different time zones, and Cotto is in the zone with the later time, so his fight happens first.

    The time zones make sense.

I just figured Cotto was a bigger draw than Pavlik, and on that basis alone, he should be the headline. I was not considering separate venues into the equation.

Their respective drawingpower depends on what part of the country they fight in.

Anywhere in the midwest: Pavlik by a mile.

    AC: about equal

    Vegas: About equal

MSG: Cotto by a huge margin.

As for PPV drawing power neither is "ready for prime time." They have a lot of fans in common. Plus Cotto draws the the PRs, and Pav the white folks. Even though we have a lot of people whining and bitching about this PPV, I think it will do okay. Both guys have a decent fan base, and everyone is anxious to see how they do after taking their ass whippin's.

Thought they turned down Pavlik/Rubio too. These guys are coming off losses and should be on a free card to encourage people to watch them. Looks like putting both on the same PPV is what made HBO accept it.

Agreed 100%. If they really are going to put this on PPV, I hope they do so at half the normal rate.

It is not an HBO production. It is a Top Rank Production that On Demand will feature.
