Fedor Alekandrovich Chudinov vs. Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna RBR

Not anticipating this lasting twelve..

 

Round 4

Chudinov is swarming, ignoring the sting of Maderna's down-sloping jabs when they fire together. Maderna forced to give continually more ground. When he stands in the pocket, Chudinov bashes him upside the kisser with a looping right over the left wrist. Maderna just shelling up, grinding his shoulder into Chudinov while bending to his side, intentionally making a pretzel of himself with Chudinov meant to be just the incidental salt flake. Chudinov would rather be mustard, however, slathering himself ALL OVER the Argentinian, overwhelming him, forcing him into a rather spastic and uncoordinated series of ducks & weaves, leaving him more open to Chudinov's short hooks. Maderna wrestling for all he's worth, but can't overpower the Russian.

It must be pointed out that Chudinov, while hardly perfect, has probably 10x as much ring IQ as Beterbiev (while, inversely, to be fair, Beterbiev has probably 10x as much power)

What frustrated & confused him isn't going to necessarily be a problem for a stylistically very different (and more technically sound) fighter in Fedor.

 

Round 5

Chudinov is ducking in and rowing out jabs into the chest as Maderna hot-foots away, tripling up a light quick pawing jab. Chudinov is getting hit a bit more now, as Maderna keeps some distance between them, nudging Chudinov away via jabs on the belt line. Maderna tries lining up a rainbow counter right to stem Chudinov's advance, but can't get it off in time. Chudinov is always right there in his chest. Rough stuff on the inside, Chudinov threshing away with body hooks & some perhaps not so accidental elbows.

Fifth wasn't bad for Maderna, though he still lost it, there's a glimmer of reason for him to be optimistic, IMO.

 

Round 6

Chudinov is just painting a Jackson Pollock all over Maderna's skull with high-reaching slap-hooks. Maderna unable to walk & chew gum at the same time apparently, putting his focus either altogether on footwork or taking aim with a counter 1-2, but faltering when he attempts to string it all into a seamless motion. Chudinov bullying his way in, tapping Maderna's body, and hooking over his gloves to bang either fist off his temples. Maderna does finally drop a nice right hand on Chudinov, but he doesn't even blink at Maderna's only connection in three minutes besides a few light jabs flicked out backhanded into his nose.

Round 7

Chudinov is getting caught with some combos as he wades in with the same old same old. Maderna is starting to get a flow going offensively, incorporating jabs, crosses & hooks into a backfoot symphony of light scoring touches. Chudinov is still landing the heavier stuff, loading up on huge rips into Maderna's abdomen, but the quantity edge has swung decidedly in the challenger's favor. Chudinov is throwing in ones & twos anytime he gets inside, but many of these are now being stuffed as Maderna lowers his crossed arms to catch them. On the outside it has become all Maderna with the creative flurries off the jab. Chudinov reaches for him with an up-jab and line drive right but Maderna is backpedaling too quickly for him to get a piece. Maderna rapidly ducks under a hooking combo by Chudinov in a corner, just in time, demonstrating a little slickness.

He did up his work-rate but it was definitely a fight-or-flight response, I think he is very wary of Chudinov's heavy-handedness at this point, and the stamina has been wilting for a few rounds, he may be sputtering down..

 

That said, Chudinov's gas tank isn't great, his accuracy has really suffered the last couple of rounds, even going to Maderna's body he's connecting a very poor clip.

 

Round 8

Chudinov is stuffing jabs into Maderna's face, haranguing the Argentinian into the ropes and then hooking the body forcefully. Maderna tries holding but can not contain the shorter man bucking into him off partially bent knees with thumps on the ribs and straight flurries on the now perennially open mouth. Chudinov is cleaving to Maderna closely, giving him no room to breathe, disallowing the clinch, and popping shots anywhere he can, which is wherever he wants, as Maderna's extremities are increasingly slow to respond to synaptic orders such as "maneuver arm to x location to block"...
